I absolutely despise it. I admit it does some good; look at the new a-hole we tore Microsoft! We pretty much saved gaming (for now). That's when it should be used, when someone is about to(or has done something) that will negatively effect a lot of people lives. However like all weapons Social Justice is often misused, particularly when it's about attacking otherwise harmless people for simply being "big meanies", or simply having a contrary (albeit tasteless) opinion. It's really very silly and immature, objectively speaking. The recent Penny Arcade drama doesn't speak volumes for everyone disagreeing with that guy's opinion. News flash everyone, people are allowed to think differently from you, even if that means you despise them for it. That's life, DEAL with it. [small]You were supposed to learn this in elementary school for crying out loud.[/small]

I have begun to think a lot of the people are sexual fetishists who can only obtain release by shouting down political incorrectness as loudly and obnoxiously as possible.

I'll admit that I'm not entirely familiar with this group but from what I've seen they just strike me as bullies.

There's a lot of rubbish on the internet, and some good stuff you can find if you wade through.

OTOH, though, it's best to remember the context, any noteworthy site will attract dozens of bigots trying to troll or derail it, or just assuming that they automatically know best and want to enlighten people.

As such, you should watch what you say, often they don't bother giving people the benefit of the doubt anymore, and it's easy for someone to say something horribly offensive out of ignorance. Generally, lurk more is good advice.

This title is wrong. You should of linked it to social media. EG What do you think about the people that talk about social justice on social media platforms like tumblr?

Cause as someone that has studied some social justice issues at university, your linking of Social Justice one big organisation that exists as a group idiot thinktank on tumblr or facebook trivialises it. I really think a different word should of been used here. The people that are on tumblr that you talk about to me aren't people that practice or know about social justice issues.

There is a difference between the opinion of some idiot on tumblr and someone who has studied the field and advised government policy. Also i hope you not thinking that one person acting like an ass on the internet as representative of people that talk about social justice issues. There can be well informed people and there can be uninformed idiot people on any issue.

I think i heard this from TSW, youtube comments are the measure of how depraved humanity has become, something along those lines forgot which npc says it. But it's how view internet anonymous messaging in general. However this place has a higher standard in comments compared to some of the other forums i have encountered.

Side note, your defense of Johnny Depp was fair comment. It's a shame that you were subjected to stupidity and intolerance by the others.

I don't see why it was wrong for someone to call him out on his ignorance; the Twitter conversation someone posted earlier seemed like a perfectly reasonable reaction from someone who had experienced that sort of thing his entire life.
Yes, wishing death upon him and calling him "cis male scum" is the most reasonable, calm, and rational approach I can think of.

But with regards to social justice, isn't it a good thing that someone who was offended was able to go right to the source and get him to reconsider his views?
Ditto for doing right - anybody who is being bombarded with insults and threats immediately drops to their knees and goes "I didn't know!" and becomes a better person. This is a winning tactic and has no chance of making them hostile and makes outsiders view the insulting group in higher regard.

It's counterproductive in some situations.
Take the Westboro Baptist Church as an example, do you think directly some social justice their way is really going to change their views?
Or is it going to make them feel more persecuted against and strengthen their resolve?

Well, the dude mentioned in the OP is just a flaming racist, so that's not a very good impression...

Generally, the people I've met view social justice in terms of black and white and SCREW YOU IF YOU THINK THERE'S ANY MIDDLE GROUND. So I usually end up feeling like I'm talking to a screaming child by the end of it.

I would've thought by now that people would just learn to ignore Westboro Baptist Church.
It is quite clear that they really don't care or want to change their view points.
I can understand the locals. They have to live with these people on a daily basis. I can also understand military families, and victims of tragic events. If the worst happens and one of the family is KIA there is a chance Westboro might take it upon themselves to picket the funerals.

However the social media, the news outlets, the radio outlets, bloggers, all of these people should just stop giving them the time of day.

It gets really annoying when they are invited to host shows and it's basically people in the crowd shouting them down for acting exactly as everyone would expect them to be- complete bigots.

Suffice it to say, I think such over reactions by feminists do more harm than good. Same goes for overreactions when it comes to situations where race is involved. If it ruins people's lives for no good reason, then the movement has a great deal of work to do to recover and be seen in a flattering light.
Even the feminists on that page agreed that she should not of done what she did.
Never even heard of the word "dongle" until now believe it or not, and it sounds just as goofy as "vajayjay"
I'm glad she got fired.
I just hoped that by now those two guys found another job. Real asshole move on her part (she also has a bit of an ego going on. )

From my experience, internet activism is pretty fruitless and as you point out can be overly hypocritical and just annoying. I say this as most of these Tumblr activists just share a message or picture to let everyone know how tolerant and active they are in making the world a better place, all the while they don't even leave their computers. It's nice to mean well, but these types of people usually don't do anything to help any situation, yet act like they're at the front lines, combating whatever they find evil or intolerant.

I should mention my rant is on more or less the fake social justice Tumblr activists, even if the real ones don't always see eye to eye with me, at least they do more than click a heart icon.

The term "social justice" is pretty much a meaningless phrase, because everyone has their own ideas of what exactly constitutes "justice", so since it can mean anything, it really means nothing.

The person who called you a Cracker is just a racist asshole, simple as that, and the fact that he referred to you as a white person like it was some sort of insult speaks volumes about their character.

Always remember this: the actual dictionary definition of a "bigot" is someone who is completely intolerant of other views, so basically people like the one you described are just hateful bigots.

In reference to Tumblr and all these other group think causes I think they are despicable. They have a book burning attitude towards everything they disagree with and they exist only to make people afraid to speak their minds. They take political correctness and use it as a weapon to destroy lives. People should be free to make stupid, racist, homophobic, or simply politically incorrect statements without having their lives ruined by a group of basement dwellers that need to feel like they are fighting for some invisible cause. Disagreeing with people is great, destroying them for their (often misguided) opinions is shitty and makes them worse than any racist or bigot in my book.

The trick with social justice on tumblr is to try and find the non-crazy ones - they tend to say good things and not be shitheads about it if you call them out on something they say, instead approaching your commentary with intelligence and thought (a rare thing on the internet in general).

Yes, there's a shocking amount of idiots out there who call for the 'death of the cis-white man!', but like anything on the internet Poe's Law is in full effect here - the safest thing to do is ignore them, paying attention to the handful that actually present reasonable arguments. Of course, if you start going 'THIS PERSON IS SAYING EVERYTHING AND IT RESONATES WITH MY SOUL I AM NOW ONE WITH THEM', then you've somehow contracted the viral equivalent of 'dumb social justice' and should probably step away from the internet for 1 to 2 weeks.

In other words: I'm more analytical of the Tumblr Social Justice Movement; I ignore the idiots and listen to the smart ones. It's not inherently bad, it's just that - like most things on the internet - a sizable portion of it is sub-standard in quality, grammar and emotional control.
The thing is, at least on my dashboard when it pops up is that it happens to be that you can't really tell the person's emotional state through their original post about said issue.
The Native American story that I said in my OP was well written, well thought out, and while the tone was angry there was no real indication that he would act the way he did.
It wasn't until I said something "defending" Depp in a way did I see how he doesn't want to have any sort of rational discussion.
Especially when he acknowledged the fact that I wasn't even debating with him on what Depp said was out of bounds.
As much as I agreed with the guy on the matter, he wasn't looking for a discussion. He was looking for a soapbox.
Anyone who so much as said something for the man was his instant enemy. No matter how much you agree with him.
This is the kind of things one risks when they speak in opposition.
Yes, there are nuts out there. Always has been, always will be, but in these scenarios you don't know that they are like this.
They type rationally, and the next thing you know your being shouted down on.

For me personally this doesn't affect me in such a negative way that I hate the SJ movement. I am simply more wary now. However for other people, this can really have the direct opposite of what the goal is supposed to be. Which is tolerance of all people.

No, It's all good.
If someone had told me this earlier I probably would've save my self 10 minutes of headache inducing childishness.
I usually expect the best out of people, so it gets me a bit riled up when they act extremely immature.
However if I expect it at the get go I guess it makes it much easier to stomach.
However I guess I should just really watch what I say. Seeing as how the smallest things can really fire people up.

The Penny Arcade deal made me mad, I read back on what Gabe said originally and it was mildly ignorant, it seemed to stem from just overlooking/not thinking about the subject rather than any deep seated hatred, It was a conservation that should have gone as follows;

Gabe "Ignorant thing"
Internet "Correction"
Gabe "Understanding of mistake, Mild apology, Movements on with lift"
Internet "back to making Xbone jokes"

Instead it went like this;

Gabe "Ignorant Thing"
Internet 1 "Death threats"
Internet Mad at Internet 1 " Rape jokes"
Internet 1 and 2 "back to making Xbone jokes"

It's saddening, Same thing that happened with the Dick wolves fuck up, both the pro and anti PA sides acted for the most part like Cutter Uunts, With the white knighting Anti PA group Sending death threats and basically online stalking Gabe, the "pro PA group" basically constantly made rape jokes, spammed the woman who made the first comment and formed 'Team Rape'... for fuck sake guys 'Team Rape'? . And while the major Drama boiled down to a double over reaction from both Gabe and Courtney Stanton the genuine issues raised (Rape culture in gaming) which is something that needs to be debated was reduced to threating to Rape a rape victim murder a mans wife and child.

[bold]Go you internet.[/bold]

Sadly this is how the internet works now, the Social Justice idiots attack everyone while the counter groups attack everyone, all Logic and message is lost and anything learned from the original point is burried and left to die. It's like watching Keith Olbermann and Glen Beck Debate, 2 bloated idiots doing nothing but shattering any respect you had for the point in the first place. Any points that need to be debated just decend into who ever can shout about rape or death loud enough.

They are children. Immature children who are too narcissistic to adapt to Real Life, and attack others to compensate for their own inadequacies.

The very idea is absurd. "Social Justice" infers that there were 'social' wrongs that were committed that must be addressed.

This has always been the case going back to antiquity, but I don't hear anyone angry at the Visigoths for sacking Rome.

Social Justice = Whining for the sake of whining. No more, no less.
