
I'd have gone with a lone sapling after a bushfire, but this'll have to do.
Death can be taken in two ways here:
1) We are all insignificant and equal in the face of death:
A sapling's death is no different from a full-grown tree's - the end result is that they're both dead.
2) Death is just part of life. The end of a phase leads into the beginning of a new one: Bushfires leave the land scorched and take many lives, but effectively clear out and help decompose old organic matter into nutrients. Some plants require smoke to help them reproduce.
