I got a warning for this [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/9.228248.7870911] post. Apparently, it is better to be articulate than use imagery, and I should read the posting guidelines.

Even though it was a follow-up joke in regards to this [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/9.228248.7870722], but I guess jokes have to be articulate now. Oh well.

No, a troll's intent is to raise the ire of a person and derive satisfaction of it. They can't gain pleasure out of someone who doesn't respond the way they want them to. The point of a troll is to be as deliberately offensive as possible so that alot of people are angry. That's why ANYONE annoys another, because they want to laugh at the anger. It's obvious that a person who isn't getting angry isn't giving a troll what he wants, because he has to put in more effort for the return.

The problem here is that the perception is all wrong. You can't go about fearing people who are going to give you a hard time. And you can't be afraid to make funny comments along the way. Don't just nit-pick at every little detail because you don't like it. The important part is that when someone trolls, it has to be noted that they went out of their way to find a post to rag on with the purpose of just being mean. When the other party can't be bothered to return in kind and get mad like they want, they go again and again and make it apparent to the MODS who is acting decently and who is not.

You assumed that I made a comment to bait an attack or even to be an arrogant wiseass. Well, sometimes I am, but this wasn't the one. This was just a comment to make a comment, like many Escapists do to pass the time. That you decided to erect a mountain on my mole hill was entirely your decision. There was no vested interest or reason to make a spectacle of it. The truth is that the comment was entirely innocent. If the trolls don't like it, that's their problem. Maybe they shouldn't be trolls.

I'm suppose to respond to this as some formal challenge? That doesn't sound like what I have here. What am I suppose to do with a person who tells me life has no meaning and that nobody can EVER handle trolls? It's completely unbelievable. Trolls aren't what you call a threat, you know. They are people, and people are suppose to be able to handle people. You make quite the bogeyman here. And please...refrain from the trash-talk.

My troll food? Goats, I guess.

(I haven't been suspended or banned on any forums, and intend to keep it that way. My strategy is not to be a dick or violate the TOS.)

Trolololololo
But when I'm trolling ( I don't do it to Escapists) then it's general ignorance and stupidity :D

Or possibly other trolls, if you go by WoW rules.
I don't quite get why no one blinks at the forsaken cannabalizing things, but when trolls do it, its a serious deal.
Forsaken cannibalism is severely misunderstood. They don't -eat- the corpses, that'd be a waste of good spare parts. As the female Forsaken humour goes "Oh they're real. They're not mine, but they're real.

As to this thread, my troll food is the BanSword Edledhaion. It's hilarious to watch trolls try and chew with half a head. If you're going to toe the line be careful that your toenails don't get cut and when all else fails, mentlegen, follow Rule 1. The Escapist's Rule 1 that is, not Lu'tze's. I'm open to answering any find detail questions on rules by the way.

Low Content posts have always been wrath worthy, we like discussions here, just posting a picture does nothing.

This is the second thread of this type over Christmas, I'm guessing people thought the moderators wouldn't be near a computer during this Festive season.

See guys, two mods, right here, right now!

I say we should be as vague as possible in response to vague questions.

"Why are people getting banned?"
"I CHOOSE PANCAKES!"

Don't troll on Escapist, but for other places spelling mistakes so bad that what the person said could be interpreted many different ways because you don't absolutely know what they're trying to say. People who ask dumb/obvious questions. Anyone active while I'm bored.

I have been probated three times. I try not to get probated or do anything. One thing that did annoy me about two of those probation was that reason I was probated for was an equally valid reason to have the other person in the argue porbated yet I was the only one probated. I know it is silly but that still irritates me to this day.

I can see why you might want to encourage discussion, however this was a thread on who you sexed up in ME2. I doubt there was much room for intellectual debate. Not to mention it was meant to be taken as a joke, and not an essay about the moral choices involved with Miranda's ass.

Put you still posted "just a picture".

This is why these sort of threads about moderation normally get locked, people moan about their probations or suspensions when its already been clearly stated why they received it.

You like the site, I like the site, it has rules, lets stick to them.

First of all, I'm not whining about my warning, I was just providing an example of why I was warned, like how the OP asked. Also, I believe it was you who came into this thread and tried to justify it, ignoring the flame war going on in here (or maybe they both got sent system warnings as well, I don't know).

Secondly, here's what the rules say:

Put Some Effort Into Your Communication
A well-made thread or a well-written comment engages its audience and facilitates discussion. We do ask that posters take just a little time to make their posts as readable as possible and keep their responses on topic. We also ask that you take a moment to check your spelling and grammar.
First of all, I doubt "Romance options in Mass Effect 2" was really that much of a well-made thread, and my 'well-written comment' (which was me making a joke) both engaged the audience and facilitated discussion, as another member quoted me, and I simply replied, further facilitating the discussion on the joke I made.

ZING, you got me there, I told you why you got a probation.

So you agree that low content posts should receive mod wrath, it says there that "put effort into your posts".
