An easily crafted teleportion stone that warps you back to your bed. Because the last thing you wanted is to die in the Nether and respawn in the middle of nowhere and no idea how to get home.

Dye-able bricks. Maybe I don't want red brick or grey stone. Maybe I want yellow brick blocks (not solid Gold blocks) like in a certain copyrighted movie...
You can do that with wool. It's dyeable in a vast range of colours, including yellow/gold. :)

A Hot-air balloon? It should be pretty complicated to build. You have to build the Balloon (with a TON of wool) and the Carriage (Boat+Furnace+Redstone) separately. And it needs a LOT of Coal to stay afloat.

Personally, I'd like to see more weapon types added. Longswords and bows are already in game, as well as TNT, but what about single stick dynamite (less of a boom), shortswords, daggers, crossbows, claymores, broadswords, scimitars, spears, halbreds, pikes, partisans, battleaxes, ect.

It would also be awesome to have horses like in this one mod that adds many different types, like packhorses (small moveable inventory), or other mounts. THAT would be fun.
I love the idea for a steed, you could use that stupid pig saddle for something useful.

some of the stuff from craftbukkit- drawbridges, portcullis, airlocks, lifts.

And if anyone says guns or magic then they're playing the wrong game.

EDIT= oh and it may not be an item but Id love it if Notch incorporated that gravel+water= clay thing thats present in so many mods its silly.

Hot air balloons/ air ships. For air travel.

On a crafting table it would look like a boat but with a furnace in the middle and a line of wool blocks on top like so.
Wool |Wool |Wool
Wood |Furnace |Wood
Wood |Wood | Wood
Thinking about it there are so many uses fast/safe travel scouting rail less travel. You would need to flue it (anything that burns should do). Without fuel it would sink slowly (not crash) and you would have to break it down and carry it on land (like a boat). While it would allow you travel avoiding spiders and creepers, skeletons can still bring it down it the hit they balloon with arrows (which will make it crash) but you can also use wool to repair the instead of having to completely rebuild it.
It will only really be usable out in the open so trying to fly it in small caves or dense forest will damage it. It should also make a good emergency escape if you need it.

PS-Any modders that like this idea you are welcome to it.
Yes! I read through this entire thread and this is by far the most excellent idea.

I would now like to add that I would like a modified version of this called, an air base. It could basically be an air ship but on an extra large scale. That would be fantastic.

copper, which be more common the iron and could be used for just about everything iron is, but with a few caviats. copper cannot be used to create minecarts, tracks or doors, and a bucket made of copper cannot hold lava.

more metals in general would be nice, and how about a furnace that can make alloys, that'd be cool right? steel anyone?

also a gate door, my door i have in the middle of my fence looks totally stupid.

more uses for redstone too.

EDIT almost forgot, how bout the bows act more like bows and not machine guns? as is, bow totally breaks the game. i'd like it if so, holding down the right button pulled back on the on the string, and then fired when released. that would be cool. and how about a wearable quiver that holds all your arrows so they don't take up inventory space.

more clothing in general would be cool, like a backpack or running shoes.

I always thought minecraft needed rope. If you reach a large drop inside a cave you could propel yourself down it on rope. You would just put a bunch of string together as you would making a fishing rod i guess.

Heat visor.

Lets you see clearly while on fire.

Why? Because lava is fatal enough without also blinding you whenever you touch it. My only two deaths to lava have both been due to fire-blindness rather than actually falling into lava (once I stepped into lava for just a second and couldn't find the nearby water source - a stream literally 10 blocks away - because I couldn't see a damn thing, so I burned up, thankfully far enough from the lava that all my stuff survived; once I was placing lava around a cave for light sources and my placement missed, placing the lava on the block directly in front of me rather than the gap behind it where I was actually aiming, which set me on fire and knocked me down some steps where I was too disoriented to get out of the then-falling lava stream headed my way).

So yeah. I like being able to see. It is nice.

Also want some additional water mobs, maybe some more items that can be found underwater like oysters or something. (For pearls) You know what would be cool? a horse.

the thing added in mods mainly (i dont know how to install them, so having them worked into the actual game would be great. and would cut out the issues with people having to reinstall them)

Floodgates. They're doors that allow water/lava to go through them.

I'd like what everybody has already said in terms of gates and blocks which affect other blocks.
Specifically trapdoors/drawbridges/winch+pulley+rope+counterweight mechanisms/water and lava gates.

Well I'm really hoping pistons get added soon.

Rope and Pulley systems. I need some way to make elevators and drawbridges...
Yeah, basically these (especially hopeful for the piston) and an Aether, the opposite to the Neither...

Also, now that I think about it, adding something to the Neither. Right now, as it stands, there really isn't any big motive at all to going there. Sure there's Glowstone, but you have to gather 9 glowstone dust piles in order to make your own glowstone cube... and each naturally occurring Glowsone in the Neither only drops one dust pile. So it's really not that worth it to go, too risky for just that.
