Stuff that keeps me up during my random months of insomnia are just things I do to myself honestly. It's mostly the watching creep/scary ass stuff late in the night and going to bed is... well terrifying. That our restless thoughts. Usually restless thoughts

Eczema. It drives me crazy when I can't sleep because my face is itching.
Yeah, this pretty much
It's damn horrible when you have it in the eyelids
My sister gets it around her eyes, too. I'm so thankful I don't - usually just on my hands.

We just bought a couple horses. I keep waking up thinking I hear coyotes. It's driving my wife crazy. It's gotten really bad since a week ago when there were ACTUALLY some fucking coyotes on my neighbor's property.

Cats.

Cats and worries about life. Mostly cats, though - I'm generally an easygoing guy. Say what you will, but it's a lot easier to ignore a crushing sense of futility than it is an obese cat treading on your eye.

Insomnia :D

except for last night, last night i stayed awake trying to bleach my brain after i found out some disturbing things about a friend.
Was it a giantess domination fantasy? If it is we may have the same friend. Holy shit that was creepy.

OT: I just can't sleep. For as long as I can remember i've always been up until about 3am before sleeping for about 5 hours and getting up like normal.

Not too long ago, it was because that moment when you are just laying there was the one time a day when I had no choice but to slow down and review. Review my day that is. Which usually led to reviewing my career and my life. And more often than not the overall conclusion on both accounts was "RED ALERT!!! ACT NOW!!!" But at the same time I *couldn't* act (it's a long story). So yeah, you can imagine...
That's over and done with now but I still tend to get to sleep waaay late because, in my enthousiasm over regaining control of my life, I often stop "working" pretty late. And I have always insisted upon doing 1 or 2 hours of something fun before bed (usually gaming) so I end up going to bed even later. I don't really mind though, since it's for all the right reasons now.

3:02 am. Here I am again.

At least this time I know why, not sleeping is a lot more annoying and harder to avoid when you don't know what's causing it. It's a frequent problem;
I plan on being a horror director/writer as a profession, and as such, I'm rather good of thinking up scary things vividly. The drawback of which is that I'm often the first person to be exposed to them, unless it's something which most other people are afraid of that I'm not, which is rarely the case.

Sometimes it's a monster, sometimes a situation, but I can rarely sleep with that thought on my mind. Even if I write it down, it often won't leave for quite some time. The worst things are what I call "flash dreams". I'll close my eyes, and BAM! A few seconds or so of my very own high octane nightmare fuel. I go back to sleep, and it happens again.

This time, it's zombies. A little more traditional than usual...it's to do with all those stories that keep popping up. It seems ridiculous, as the modus operandi is similiar; Naked, going for the face/head. Hard to think of a mind altering disease with such specific outcomes, and some of the perpetrators even talked. And yet it gets me thinking of something starting plausibly enough, yet another disease scare or something, and then suddenly, all hell breaks loose. Go to bed one day, wake up to screams all around. It's a horrible thought, of course.

I'm currently attempting to stave it off with futurama. If that doesn't work, well, it's not as if I'm not used to my chaotic, ever shifting sleep pattern. Which I'm sure is contradictory, but screw you, I'm tired.

So, what keeps you up at night? When you can't sleep what is it that stops you?

EDIT: Wait, did I use the term "high octane nightmare fuel" to refer to an actual nightmare? Oh god I need to be stopped from making tired posts...
Yes, yes you did. Although I think that tvtrope describes it quite well :p

I don't plan on being a anything-with-horror, but I've had some pretty scary night things. The most vivid one (that I've allowed myself to remember) has to have been the one where, Its a normal day in school, and then (due to dream physics) all of my friends for some reason have holes darker than black as opposed to eyes and mouths, and then started to eat me. I obviously woke up from this horrible nightmare to find my body was still in sleep paralysis, and I couldn't move any part of my body, besides my eyes and brain working.

Not a fun night. Needless to say a 48-hour day was had.

OT: I mostly don't feel the need to stay up. I only really sleep as I feel its something that I should do.

Well, in the holidays, I'm generally a night person. I usually need about 6 hours of sleep a night, so I can safely stay up to 3am and still get up at a reasonable time.
But, for the kind of things OP is looking for, I'd have to say Youtube and 1D4chan.

Mostly, that I'm more of a night person. I'm lethargic and tired during the day, and most productive and functional at night. Luckily, my schedule at the lab is my own, so I can go in when I want, long as the work is getting done. I also tend to game at night, while samples are in the furnace, and it's a lot easier, since the optimal situation for my entertainment was poorly planned around windows, and at night I have no glare.

Something to keep you up at night? This isn't my personal story, but how about the knowledge that someone who is far more powerful, influential, and beloved than you has decided to drive you to commit suicide by turning your life into a living Hell. No real reason; just for the fun of it. Even if you told someone, they either wouldn't believe you (and probably get a little angry that you're slinging absurd conspiracy theories at this person), or if they did, they would be powerless to help.

I watch Anime and YouTube stuff between 9:00pm and 2:00am usually, mainly because thats when most of my subscriptions post their stuff and everyone else is asleep, I've gotten used to awkward sleeping patterns now though.

1. Dehydration! thats right dehydration even in winter....so thirsty. Yes i can cure it with water...but then im pissing for england instead every half an hour. The main cause of what keeps me up at night.

2. I can get random thoughts of anger which pisses me off example being seeing person who i used to know who jerked me around and i imagine smashing hes face in. As a result it wakes me up and i can't sleep.

3. Body seems to be more alert and awake when the sun goes down..how does that make sense? Spend all daylight time sluggish then you wake up just when its time to sleep. Pain in the arse when you got somewhere to be early next morning....ive got this right now. 11:27am too early you say? well need to be up at 6am...6 hours if first and second problems don't keep me awake if they do then i will be lucky to get 3 1/2hours to 4hours.

Anime, my mind, insomnia. I pulled an all nighter, then slept for a few hours from morning til evening. It's not approaching midnight and it feels like it should be the afternoon.

The questions used to

I was raised Catholic so I have always been told that there was a benevolent god, but then looking around I couldn't exactly call him benevolent. Then I started thinking about the literal nature of the universe through the power of science, and then the none existence of god was thrown down my throat, but I couldn't accept that either. Science didn't disprove that.

Then I had a dream about nothingness, it scared the shit out of me... actually I could have been infinity come to think of it. I like that, "I looked into the threshold of Nirvana and said NOOOOOOO!"

In the end I realised that this conundrum came down to a feeling of helplessness; so I came to terms with that; If life is a brief interruption in a state of Oblivion then holding on to something fleeting at the expense of experiencing it fully is folly, as is not taking the opportunity if life is infinite.
