Windows 7 32bit on my laptop and Ubuntu 10.04 on my netbook. I found 7 actually better for games than XP, and Ubuntu 10.04 runs way better on low-power machines like netbooks (and can be easily re-installed from a USB key since it doesn't have a DVD drive). I've also used Slackware Linux at school for programming and it works great, and would set it up on one of my computers if it wasn't such a pain in the ass to install. It hates my video card for some reason.

Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit RTM.

My reasons for using it:

I game, therefore I need Windows. I'd love to use Linux but gaming on it is a pain in the ass on the best of days. Oh and I'm not going to dualboot because that wouldn't make a damn bit of sense would it? Use the lighter OS for web browsing and the bloated one for gaming? Seems kinds dumb to me.

Vista is the newest OS I can use AFAIK that gets along with my games AND my onboard audio. Realtek is slow to update their drivers, I'll go Win 7 when they get along with the driver updates. Or I snag a sound card.

64-bit because I have a 64-bit capable rig. So why the hell not?

Ultimate because I don't like a gimped OS that can't do everything. Sure I may never use any of that stuff but better have it and never need it than need it and never have it.

RTM because it works fine. I generally dislike updates, and I especially don't like Windows Update. It always breaks more than it fixes if it fixes anything at all. Service Pack 1 breaks a ton of shit, which sucks because I have to install that for GTA IV. So yeah, I don't run any updates. Don't need 'em. It runs fine RTM, and I'm not stupid enough to get malware.

People hate it cause the subsystems use way more resources than they need. Switch to Win7, and you'll have more CPU and RAM available for programs
Vista Ultimate 64-bit RTM is sitting here at about 900MB used. Out of four gigs. I'd hardly call it a memory hog.
Well, compared to Linux and Win7 it is.

Bootcamp (on my Mac laptop):
32GB partition for Windows 7 64 bit (of which >16GB was used by the OS and the software I needed to play games. What the sh*t, Microsoft?)
Well, buy a "normal" gaming rig then. It does not cost more than a MacBook or iMac, in fact, it is even cheaper.
You think I have even that kind of money?
I'm a frikin' student!
The Mac lappy nearly cleaned me out.
Also, it would take too much effort to ensure that two laptops are kept safe while I'm at uni.

Uhh...it's no memory hog. If it was it'd be using twice as much ram as it does.

Hell I'd say Firefox is more of a memory hog than windows is. It's using way more memory than it should be, right now 365MB while the plugin container has 125MB. I have about 10-12 tabs open, only one of any real memory-hogging nature(My YT channel). It should be using half as much.
Well, compared to other same or later generation OS'es it uses more resources. Which is my point. Even if you feel it's not using that much it is more than other, newer OS's.

As for Firefox memory usage, compare it with other browsers, not with the OS you're running.
Open the same tabs in IE, Opera, Chrome and so on and check the memory usage there.

For reference: Firefox here with 11 tabs is using ~170MB RAM.

OOC:
I got an idea then, you know the YouTuber iJustine? Tell her that you will destory the MacBook with a hammer before a Mac Store. I am sure she will like to buy it from you so you do not do it!

Did I also mention that I actually like my mac?
The windows partition is only for games - I will never want a windows machine for any other purpose than for compatibility for games (primarily Touhou).
