I'm taking French. It is the best of the three languages my school offers, and it is a really nice language. The only problem is that my teacher never stops ranting about how much better Europe is than America. I agree that Europe has a better education system, but se moved here from Europe for goodness sake...

I did 2 years of Latin, and up to GCSE (age 16) in French, German, Ancient Greek and Japanese, and continued the Japanese to AS (17) - when I was making my subject choices, I was a bit of a language geek, but due to the fact that if I were to study German to a higher level I'd need to be taught by the most awful teacher ever (one of the pupils who's half German (but who was brought up in the UK)'s better than her) multiple times a week, meaning I'd fail. Dreadfully.

That is the reason I despise my grandma in that respect. She has this German superiority complex. She constantly spouts that everything is better in Germany, that everybody is polite an proper and eats at reasonable times. Also the one that I really hate is when she says, "Oh everything is perfect in Germany, there is no poverty and no homeless walking the streets." I wonder what Germany she was visiting. Besides she only goes there to visit her rich relatives and friends. She probably just doesn't acknowledge seeing homeless or poverty stricken areas.

Latin, Italian and Japanese. I enjoyed all three but Japanese was certainly the most difficult.

Had forced on me by school: A second form of Norwegian, English and french (although in retrospect I should've chosen german or spanish).

Voluntarily learned/learned bye experience: Swedish, a bit of danish, a few words of german and some japanese, learned from anime =P

I really want to develop my preexisting linguistic abilities as well as learn more languages, but circumstances make it hard right now.

currently taking Coast Salish (The Local Native Language here on Vancouver Island, I'm not Native, I just wanna learn it) and I used to take French, but stopped as French is a pain in the ass.

Also the Ukraine side of my family taught me Russian and Ukrainian

I'm British, and I took madatory French in years 6-9 and optional French in 10+11.
When I reached A-Level, I took a recreational course in Japanese.
I am now taking extra-curricular courses in Japanese in University.

Wooo, Latin!

As it happens I do Latin in school as well as Classical Greek (+Ancient if you count Homer as separate). Greek is clearly the better language though.

Didn't take anything, but Japanese and German are on the list of languages to learn if I ever get around to it. So many things I wish to do, so little time.

For now, im attempting to master english. So far, I'm doing a stupendous job of it... compared to most others that surround me.

I'm studying a Japanese Continuers (sort of like an advanced course I guess) right now, and its eating the life out of me. It's pretty fun though, but it gets lonely since I'm studying by correspondence :(

(My) German (sucks) and English. Had the choice of Russian and French instead of German, but the choice was presented too late as an option (not that I'd probably have taken them anyway).

I did French until my 4th year of High School then I stopped in 5th year since it stopped being compulsory then. I was recommended to pick Spanish for 3rd & 4th Year but learning two languages woulda killed me.
