help me decide if this is a good deal or not [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220951]

Looking for a portable laptop for personal use and casual gaming. Stuff like battle.net on SC2 and what not. From the looks of it, this should handle starcraft 2 with no problems.

The only thing I DONT like is the 14" screen and the dark brown color.

Thoughts?

I also found something that might be a better deal. It's $50 less, and it has some pretty good power for the price.

What would be the better purchase, escapists? [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215037]

I know my basic specs, but I'm not good when comparing. I might go with the acer because its $50 less and it has a larger screen. Nearly just as much power too.

I'm also weary on the second one because of Acer. You never really hear anything about acer...

Honestly... ASUS

It seems like it has better specs overall, and I personally am not a fan of Acer at all.

One thing that would seemingly be major is the difference between a 5400rpm acer drive vs a 7200 asus drive.

As for the color, i do get that, but that is what they make things like laptop skins for.

Only advantages im seeing with Acer is 50$ less, which for a laptop is not really that good of a value for the discount, and the 14 inch screen vs 15 inch. 1 inch isnt really going to be a huge difference visually, but it can be a pretty hefty difference weight wise. The Acer is almost a half pound more. For a laptop mobility is key, and larger can be heavier and more cumbersome.

ASUS, 1000 times over. I think in the long run its a better choice overall.

EDIT: In retrospect... the only thing I can see that would cause me to consider the ACER, and this is a serious consideration, Is the ASUS very odd seemingly lacking an HDMI port. Nowadays HDMI ports can be very important on laptops and netbooks.

That just about convinced me. I already had my mind set on Asus, I just wanted more opinions.

I would agree with regard to the ASUS. In general it is just better. Also ASUS generally speaking make quality gear. That laptop will most likely have a longer life than other brands.

I have good experiences with Acer,s repair/customer service so I would go for the Acer one.

Get ASUS, it'll be reliable, if it turns out to be a dud they'll replace it without much fuss.
Acer stuff is plasticky, very hard to place down a single thing 'wrong' with them, they just tend to be made of average or poor quality parts.
