Graphics, sound, gameplay, multiplayer, storyline. Which of these elements do you look forward to in a game and which don't matter to you at all. Rank them in order of importance 1-being the most esential 5-being the least esential

1-gameplay
2-graphics
3-sound
4-storyline
5-multiplayer.

It depends on the game really, this is a bit of a broad thread.

Generally

1-gameplay
2-multiplayer (since I mostly play PC games online)
3-sound
4-storyline
5-graphics

yup, you read correctly. i care more about sound design than storyline. but i'm an audio geek, I record and mix sound, so if the sound sucks really really bad I end up tuning the game out. it only barely edges out storyline, tho, and i put graphics at the end of the list because they've come so damn far that I'm not impressed by ANYTHING anymore.

Don't forget the camera. You need a great camera for a great game.

1. Storyline
2. Gameplay
3. Graphics
4. Multiplayer
5. Sound

I like games that have a good and well thoughout storyline, it always leaves you thinking as to what's next in the plot, of course graphics is essential because I really don't feel like going back to the days of the Atari or whatever system is considered "Old school" now adays, I really don't care about sound, because like I stated above, I really just go for the storyline to learn more about a game.

A great deal of effort, good design choices and lot's of playtesting.

The other factors generally fall into place when these three things are present.
Also, gameplay overrides all in the importance stakes.

That's the reason I just couldn't get on with Dead Space. The idea, if a little unoriginal, was a good one and the guns were cool, but the view just stopped my enjoyment.

That special pizazz to it that makes me charmed to it above all other games. Be it the nostalgic memories or just the feeling that this game is perfect for me. I can't place it, the feeling feels so fresh and new yet at the same time so familiar and comforting. I cannot begin to describe the emotion aside from that it 'feels good'.
Whatever that emotion is.... is what I feel when I play Halo.
Therefore I call it:
The Halo Effect.

I left out the camera cause it isn't all that important in all game genres. Example: FPS, RTS, etc.
The camera counts very much in 3rd person gameplay, and I wanted to point out the basic components that aply to all games.

Almost all games have cameras. Unless, of course, you play your RTSs blind.

1.) Correlation between plot and gameplay (and they both have to be good, obv)
2.) Music
3.) Sound effects
4.) Atmosphere
5.) Graphics (I place graphics at the bottom as they are what age the quickest)

How does the camera influece a RTS?In every RTS game you command your troops for somewhere in the clouds and see the battlefield from way above, zooming in every now and then with a telescope or something. Then again I'm not a big fan of RTS games, so i quess you have to be a fan to judge the camera angles when almost every time it seems you play from the Enterprise.

Well, if that's the best an RTS camera can be, then it is a great camera. Just 'cause something is a common staple of something doesn't mean it can't be wonderful. Just look at bread.

-Gameplay
-Story
-Environments
-Level design (the uniqueness of it etc)
-Variety
-Memorable characters
-Addictive (a game that I can play for many, many hours without getting bored)
-Graphics (you can do more grand scripted events, you can immerse yourself better etc)
-Longevity of a game
-Replay value
-Innovation

There are too many factors, some matter more than others, but a perfect game aces all of those categories.

1 - Storyline

5 - Multiplayer

I'm thinking mostly of single-player oriented games in which I can immerse, like Bioshock, for example, but it really depends on the type of game.
