Whats better a hammer or a screw driver
Its a matter of preference, don't you see, you can obviously be as effective at getting nails in the wall with a screwdriver as a hammer... :)
How do you intend to screw screws into the wall with a hammer
Don't ask so difficult questions, its all a matter of preference, obviously there is no tool that is better suited for a certain job, just train abit and you will do just as good a job with the hammer as the screwdriver :)

I see that all the "it's a matter of preference"-guys consistently ignore the fact that in all high end competitive gamings, people use almost exclusively the same control-setup. How do you explain this? Random chance?
They most likely either like to use that control scheme or the rules are forcing them to use that control scheme.

I don't see the big deal in trying to decide which is better or forcing people to choose one or the other. In my opinion it is all just a matter of preference.

However, many games that don't involve constant aiming are better suited to the controller. From fighting games, to driving games to action adventure games.
Not entirely true, because I got used to the controls of SFIV and Prototype on the PC and found them to be better than the Xbox controls. I do agree on driving games though.

the mouse is good for quickly moving the cursor across the screen and at a percise point that helps in shooters and rts.But then with a keyboard i find myself hitting a couple of buttons at once when im trying to be fast that causes problems.

So like anything it better in some ways but worse in others i just prefer controllers as they are designed for the purpose that normally means they are more comfortable to use in games.

Yeah sure, several controllers are equally good and they just happen to like the same controllers all of them. Sounds extremely plausible.

For me, the Mouse isn't that much better for aiming, I'm just more comfortable with it because I'm a PC Gamer.

Also, I've a PC so much I don't need to look at the keyboard much when I'm typing, So I don't take as long to find keys as other people.

It's just what I'm more accustomed to. I used to play console heaps, then when I got a decent computer, I started gaming on that. Because of Steam selling games way cheaper than in places like EB Games, that just encourages the practise.

The mouse is superior in terms of speed and precision. There's no debating that. That's the reason why almost all console games have auto aim.

I can understand the issue with not finding the keys, but that's cured by the ability to touchtype, which is a skill most, if not all, pc gamers have.

Of course you can try and call me biased, but then I can say that I also play on my Xbox.

In a word - modability. A keyboard and a mouse (and a joystick, for good measure) can be adapted to any type of game. Need 4 buttons? Done. Need 40 buttons? Done. Need fast, precise spatial controls? Done. Need to tab out and pretend you've been working on that spreadsheet for the past 3 hours? So fucking done! Need incremental movement? Well, add a joystick and you're set.

People who advocate the superiority of PC controls learned them better than console controls. It's a matter of what you know best.

Long story short, the precision of the mouse and the adaptability of the keyboard. A mouse that you move along a flat plane to make a cursor move in the exact same way is a lot more accurate (and faster) then a nipple that you push it a direction to give a cursor a velocity in that direction.
The keyboard, you have a single key for anything and everything you need, not you have to press right trigger+ left trigger + A, when you can press ~ on the keyboard
I remember this article when they were considering putting a mixed lobby for halo between consoles and the PC, they did runs where there was one team on PC and one on Console (auto aim off) and the PC team cleaned house, the console team even believed that even with auto aim on their chances would not have been that much better.

I don`t PC controls are better, it just depends on the game.

For example:Have you tried to play Devil May Cry on PC?
Yes. I plugged a console controller into my PC. Works perfectly. Want to use a mouse with a console? Sorry.

Yeah, sure thats the reason, i guess thats why they had to heavily nerf key/mouse in shadowrun, and add auto-aim for joypads.

I just cannot see how poeple can belive this, all top level players in fps and rts on PC uses keyboard and mouse, do you really belive this is just preference or experience? That there was not a single one of this people who had used joypads for gaming quite a lot before?

Controllers and Keyboards both have their ups and downs. I have no respect for gamers who think one is better than the other.

There's a reason why prominent console shooters have a hefty dose of auto aim and PC shooters do not, and it's not because of "personal preference" or because "it's just what you know better".

PC controls are great simply because I can use whatever the hell I want to for control.

I've even used a tablet a few times, that was quite cool, nowhere near as cool as the Novint Falcon though.

I pity the console players who stupidly claim the controller is superior to anything, they don't have much imagination.

Mouse is better for aiming, stick is better for controlling (as many others have said)

allow me to introduce the most awesome controller ever made to the PS3, which combines the mouse and stick into pure awesomeness

God, I want one of those... shame I haven't got the money =/
