What Makes PC Controls so Great?

To be honest it's the same fanboy nonsense that nintendo has had for so many years. Mac/Apple too. People usually cling onto a console they like and will defend it to the grave.

Frankly, PC controls are nice sometimes, since there's about 100 buttons on a keyboard, and if you're playing any kind of RPG there's a good chance that half the buttons are going to be used. (That's both good and bad.)

I like the mouse VS a joystick, but I enjoy only having to press a few buttons in console games VS having to figure out what "E" and "Q" do in this game.

So many options and buttons to be controls, you can make your own in some games.

However I will argue against the false claim that no setup is better.
Even on a purely hardware level, both set ups have their strengths and weaknesses.
Yeah and? Thats exactly what makes one setup better for a certain gametype.
Yes, maybe so for certain gametypes but not over all of them, so shit balances out.

i cannot stand PC controls
*hides from impending barrage of large rocks and pointy objects*
Can I save time and effort and just use a large, pointy rock?
this would also be acceptable.. please make your blows precise and deadly with a minimum of pain
How about being decapitated with a sharpened keyboard?

I've been using my own configuration of keyboard keys for the past 10 years now. One main row of keys and a few staggering below it. I just find it way more flexible and free than holding on the controller and I aim wayyyyyyy better with a mouse then any joystick can do. Besides, I never forget where I put my keyboard :D

Now, driving games are pretty freaking hard to do with a mouse and keyboard

There's a reason why DA:O sucks on a console. It just doesn't have enough buttons.
And the mouse has more precision for aiming.
FPSs and RTSs are for PCs, because you need precision aiming, and the bloody console doesn't have enough buttons for an RPG
Hack n slash for consoles, because constantly clicking the mouse in Devil May Cry makes ME cry.
Then there are games like Flower, who are more interactive when played with consoles.

Apparently the mouse is better for more precision aiming.

Which is funny, Since I'm infinitely better at aiming on a console than my PC.
Christy Brown could paint much better with his foot.
Nonetheless, the hand is a superior artistic tool in most cases.

try playing scout in tf2 on computer vs on a console.
I can either kill 5 enamies around me or I can be destoryed before I can finish turning to the second guy.

you have your left hadn dedicated to the view and fireing while useing the right hand for manuvering and wepon selection.

Both of you should read all my posts.
I did. And?
I said I do better on a controller without aim assist then I do on a Keyboard/Mouse.
Yes. And? Just you or is there a massive organisation of people like you?
From the looks of of it, the thread has a sort of a consensus of the opposite of that you're saying. I'd be willing to believe the popular opinion here.
i actually do better with controllers. not saying im bad with pc, cause i can pull off a few decent headshots here and there, but on the sticks im nearly always in the top 2 in matches for any fps game and between my friends we have had a good 30 person tourny going and i won it so i'd like to think im pretty damn good with the console controller

Other than that, they really aren't any better. At least with a controller, you know for certain where all the God-damn buttons are.
Thats what I complain about. Whenever I play a PC game, the controls are scattered all over the keyboard. It's worse in RPGs when every different item gets its own key.
Then customised them to what or to what you remember. I prefer the complicated nature of a keyboard, games which i prefer to play (RTS and RPGs) use them to maximum effect. I dare you to tell me Dragon Age was easier on controller than on PC. I dare you to tell me any console RTS is better than a PC RTS.

A mouse is smoother and can be custimised (with weights) to fit how you move and how you play. Its cleaner and more accurate than a stick and combined with WASD, if allows you to quickly rotate and still maintain maximum accuracy.
i dont know if it was easier on dragon age, but it definitly wasn't harder? i played it on both (i was addicted for a while, so i was constantly at my friends playing his pc version) and it really wasn't that much of a difference, i wasn't as comfortable but i had a slight amount of speedier micro managing and thats it really. which wasn't even really needed since i destroyed the game on normal mode (im not a hardcore person who plays everything on hard)

ot: its really just preference, if you have grown up with MK, then good for you, if you have grown up with console controllers, then awesome. most game types have been crossed over quite a bit so its not hard to find games on anything for what you are looking for, and i have yet to not enjoy a gametype on a system (haven't played driving games on pc, so that might not be too good, but who knows. im sure plenty of people enjoy it)

I must be one of those rare people who played a load of old console games, then grew up into RTS and FPS on the Pc.. I can use both with ease and kick a fair amount of ass on the Xbox.

I'd say Movement is definitely more precise and fluid with a thumbstick, I love it whereas the only downside I'd have to a keyboard is the sometimes clunky movement controls with WSAD.
The aiming with a controller and turning.. way too slow and fudgy. High sensitivity mouse on a nice surface as big as you can and the headshots will roll.. Plus I'm a bit of a purist.. All you console players are using similar software to what most Pc Gamers condemn and alot have fun exploiting :p Aimbot -Facepalm-

I can see the ups and downs of both but saying that; I'd choose a Mouse and Keyboard every single time.

That's what racing wheels are for.
Controllers come with the console
Racing wheels dont come with a PC

Thats why I have my 360 wireless adapter for my pc to play racing games

Some games are better on consoles. Consider mario. It doesn't make sense to play it with WASD and a mouse.
More importantly, you win at least half a dozen Internets for having a StarCon2 avatar.
Indeed, best game evar. Although platformers, fighters, drivers, flight sims and sports games play just fine when you plug a gamepad in :p

Precision. With consoles, you either give up the ability to aim precisely, or you give up the ability to do a 180 in a quarter of a second. Add dodgy auto-aim and five-foot wide bullets to that, and you've got a hell of a time. The only game I prefer on consoles is Gears of War.

The mere fact of having more keys allows games with more complexity than console games.
Remeber when Deus Ex was ported to consoles? Yeah, that went juuuuuust fine.

A mouse gives greater accuracy, and faster, and I find pushing W to move forward less awkward then pushing the analogue stick forward.

Plus with a keyboard, you get quickslots and can configure controls with near-infinite variations. On a gamepad, you'll usually have at least one button that is used for 2 things.
