So I saw this comic and it got me thinking http://chickgeek.org/hardcore-gaming/
What makes a game hardcore and how far does interaction with the hardcore game have to go before the player becomes hardcore? Does the title need to be refreshed every now and again?

Feel free to discus the above but my question to you is what have you done/ played that makes you a hardcore gamer

Personaly, I'm a 38th HR Hunter in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
and
I've beaten 5 bosses in "I Wanna Be the Guy"

Feel free to leave your personal hardcoreities and also to call out people for things they've said OP's off limits. Have fun!

Edit: honestly this was supposed to be a thread about cool stuff people have done in games, could one person tell me something cool they've done in a game just one? pretty please?

Anyone who uses the term 'hardcore' unironically, deserves to be lynched by a mob of angry badgers, garrotted with their own intestines, and then strung up, semi-conscious over the edge of a cliff, so that when the young folk walk by they can see, and then they will proclaim, 'dude, that's hardcore'.

I've been playing video games for more than 20 years.

You kids probably think that's pretty hardcore huh?

Am I accepted now? Can I be cool?

I don't give a fuck if I'm hardcore or casual.
So this makes me pretty hardcore.

Also, does the title need to be refreshed now and then? Sure, but only if you're a insecure fucktard who needs to make sure they feel better about themselves by certifying that you are indeed a twat.

I don't care, but the closest definition I've found that I like to describe Soft/Harcore Gamers is this.

If you use gaming as a spare time entertainment system, then you are Softcore.

If you revolve your time around gaming, then you are Hardcore.

I mean a person could be absolutely amazing at a game but only plays it during the 2 or 3 hours he has spare in a day. A hardcore player would be somebody who could be absolutely awful but he will try to not do things (go out with friends if offered, do overtime at work and so on) to play one or more games.

By my own definition, I don't exactly know what I am. I'll go out with friends if they ask and I'll at least try to focus on work or something but I do tend to try and game as much as I can as opposed to other forms of entertainment as well as trying to avoid ridiculous things like helping my fellow man.

Also by my definition, I don't necessarily think that games are hardcore, but I think some are designed for hardcore players because of their endless grind, stupid difficulty and/or extreme length.

Don't care. I play games sometimes. If I feel like it. No label needed. Nor do I understand why people feel they should title themselves as such. Seems a bit silly to me.

I will borderline call myself a "gamer" at most because I do buy a lot of games and gaming hardware, I own a gaming PC, a 360 & PS3 and also Vita & 3DS and own hundreds of games with gaming being my primary hobby. So I could be considered a gamer but I also do other stuff, Would I label myself a "booker" for reading books? Or what about a "documentarier" perhaps? No that would silly. It grinds my gears[footnote]pun intentional[/footnote] when I get called a "boy racer" when I am neither a boy or a racer, I simply like cars and made some modifications to the interior of my car.

Therefore I declare that "gamer" is silly and "hardcore gamer" is really silly.

I struggle to hear or read the term "Hardcore" with instantly relating it with porn, so the image a "Hardcore gamer" brings to my mind would probably get me banned if I were to post it.
With force feedback controllers and Wiimotes & Playstation move controllers around I wonder what those images might be? Someone has almost certainly filmed and photographed it knowing rule 34.

I have played and finished many games. I've played easy games and hard games. I've played many of the great classics and many that I would like to erase from existence. I love games. I have loved them for over two decades by now. I love knowing more about them. I love being informed about new developments. I love watching my collection grow.

Yet I don't buy games very often anymore. Nor do I play all that often anymore. I used to, but now I have more important priorities. But that doesn't matter. I've probably earned my stripes by most standards. But that doesn't matter. Gaming is not a contest to me and I have nothing to prove.

Maybe the term 'gaming enthusiast' would be a better description, pretentious as it sounds, if I really had to call myself something.

I played Barbie... ON HARD MODE.
Before you ask, as far as I know I'm not related to Chuck Norris.

Seriously, screw the "hardcore" gamers, most of them are elitist pricks.

Ha ha, without doubt. My own mental image involved a ROB the Nintento Robot performing acts with a Superscope on Don Mattrick.

I dare say it's been caught on a Kenetic somewhere ;)
Never in my darkest dreams would I have thought of Rob the Robot, I thought I was corrupt of mind :)

I think it's just another way of saying very dedicated.

Someone who can do about everything there is to do in a game like Disgaea could be called hardcore.
And not just game wise, said person could probably make Henry Rollins pancakes.

Lol, there we have it then - in conclusion a "Hardcore Gamer" is someone who indulges in sexual acts with ROB the robot and various peripherals.

End thread lol.
It only counts if they have a NES and the participant(s?) are using the controller and the game to get ROB to do his thing, the music must be 8-bit remakes of the usual music in pornographic films as well.

Nintendo 8-bit porn music would be awesome. :)

*Watches ROB rev up, Don Mattrick bend over, and Mario don on a "power glove".......*
ZOMG, need brain bleach now. I wasn't thinking of Mario or Don Mattrick, I wont say exactly what I was thinking but it wasn't that.

It's honestly about as bullshit as saying "Yeah, I remember the days when games used to be good, and the companies wheren't greedy", it's really annoying to listen to, knowing how they're completly wrong.
I completely agree! What makes me a hardcore gamer? Hopefully nothing as I can't stand that phrase. I enjoy playing the games I like to play. What more is there to it!
