i was walking down the street one day when a thought popped into my head that made me shed a tear,so i then got to wondering what makes other people cry. so i was wondering escapist what makes you cry? it can be anything a movie, a game, a song, an memory, anything at all

personally there are a few things that make me well up when i think about them most of the time but not always, however 2 things are guaranteed to make me well up when i think about them. one is the Tim Burton movie big fish

Big Fish is a 2003 American fantasy adventure film based on the 1998 novel of the same name by Daniel Wallace. The film was directed by Tim Burton and stars Albert Finney, Ewan McGregor, Billy Crudup, and Jessica Lange. Finney plays Edward Bloom, a former traveling salesman from the Southern United States with a gift for storytelling, now confined to his deathbed. Bloom's estranged son, a journalist played by Crudup, attempts to mend their relationship as his dying father relates tall tales of his eventful life as a young adult i know its a happy film in the end but that still doesn't diminish the sadness i feel when i see it.

the second thing is a bit simpler but no less poignant its simply a Calvin and Hobbes motivational poster that i saw some time ago and now when ever i see i well up into tears for some reason

*sniff* and no I'm not crying as i post this its just raining is all...just raining...

I don't. What if I get teleported to a desert.
I'd just feel like a jackass, wasting precious body fluids.

The endings of a lot of movies and games.

Deadly Premonition, Red Dead Redemption, Snake Eater, Unforgiven- the list goes on.

The endings of Lord of the Rings, Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan always give me big man-tears, without fail. Sometimes Gladiator does as well, but it depends what mood I'm in.

That's about it, unless I'm at a family funeral, which is fair enough I think.

The only other times would be when I'm very drunk and get really emotional, but that's only happened about twice I think :p

My fiancee had to put her cat down a few weeks ago and I was there. It was sad in itself, but it reminded me of when I had to put the cat I had been with my entire childhood down a few years ago. I have a huge soft spot for cats.

Wait, I thought you said "manly" tears? Just because you're a man and cry doesn't mean every time you cry is manly tears. I mean, a lot of things make me cry, but only a few of those moments can be described as manly swelling of emotion.

One of those...Archer's backstory in Fate/Stay Night. Ask anyone, and they'll understand (and possibly agree).

Also, this music.

It helps if you know that the title translates to "Lament for Cuchulain." And if you know who that is...

TOY STORY 3.

I got told I was going to be an uncle the day that I watched it. Thankfully I was home alone because I sobbed. Like a little girl.

Also: Up, Requiem for a Dream and the piece of music 'Fantasia on A' by Vaughan Williams

The ending of The Iron Giant.

I mean come on, when he thinks Hogarth is dead and says he doesn't want to be a gun...

And then right at the end

Me too bro, me too. I watched it at the cinema with my fiancee and sister. I had to bite my lip to prevent myself from making a noise.

Toy Story 3, Lord of the Rings: Two Towers AND Return of the King, The Last Samurai.
Above are things that made me shed a single manly tear.

Confound you Samwise Gamgee, confound you and your amazing spontaneous speech skills.

Edit: Gah, I forgot to mention "A Beautiful Mind [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0268978/]", although that made me full out cry rather than cry manly tears.

I'm pretty sure I cried at the end of that movie, though I was like 8 or whatever, so they couldn't exactly be classified as manly.
OT: I can't really remember anything that could be classified as manly tears.

Plenty of movies can make me cry.
And whenever I see a ship, especially a warship (Say the old WW2 footage) It usually makes me shed tears.

When my grandpa died(I spend the year or so prior to his death bonding with him quiet a bit). Also when my dog died. My eyes get a little watery sometimes when I watch a war documentary and hear the vets talk about something tragic.

edit: I noticed that after each time a relative died or something else really bad happened I was affected by it less and less. Let's hear it for emotional scar tissue and callus build up!

Not a particularly recent one, but I re-watched Prison Break recently and when
Bellick
dies I always cry a bit. His character undergoes such a huge change and he does something you'd never expect him to have done in season one.

Not many things, but a couple of game scenes did it, LotR: Return of the King's ending did it and WALL-E did it. I liked WALL-E, good movie.
