I've been seeing a lot of depressing things on the internet lately, and I just felt like we could at least shed some light on the brighter side of life.
So, my fellow Escapist members, I want to know what makes you happy? It could be a person, an event, something you do, anything really. Just help make the internets a more cheery place.
All I ask is that you take this seriously.

A few things that really make me happy are this:

1. Seeing my girlfriend

I realize some people don't enjoy the dating scene or would prefer to stay single, and that's okay! But just coming home to see her smiling face and receive a warm kiss and a slow "I love you" just always warms my heart.

2. People enjoying my works

Last year, I had a bunch of examples of this. I was in Creative Writing 1 and an English 3 Honors class, both of which gave me plenty of opportunities to show off something and for people to look at it and give me instant feedback on it. A lot of people seemed to enjoy my poems, short stories, and all that jazz whilst I was in Creative Writing. But in English 3 Honors, it was just awesome. I always had essays that got the point across really well, but had a heaping dose of effective humor in them as well. And when I had to give a presentation on how the Great Gatsby is similar to Grand Theft Auto IV, I got an applause and was just teaming with happiness by the end.

Your turn, guys!

I also like when people like my work. I wrote a short story for English class and my teacher told me it was the best he read all year. And I wrote a shrot story for History class and my teacher predicts that I'll become a writer when I'm older.

Watching Law & Order: Criminal intent and watching any film with Vincent D'Onofrio in it always brightens my day. I also enjoy playing videogames such as Saint's row 2 and hanging out with my friends always bring a smile to my face. Oh, and a cup of tea. A cup of tea can solve any depressing mood :)

Seeing my friends at the pub.
Playing pool at the pub and having one of those days where I'm fucking amazing at it.
Above, but people actually watching to congratulate my more impressive shots.
Relaxing in front of the TV for any of the shows I like.
Science! Especially drunk science! (Urgh, did we do drunk science last night?)
Variational calculus. Especially hamiltonian systems.

When I'm in another world, be that playing a game, having a pretty damn awesome dream, or reading a book, so utterly immersed that I'm blissfully unaware of reality temporarily.

As metaphicsal as it my sound: Honest things make me happy. You know, something I don't have to think about if there's an agenda behind it. Doesn't matter if it's a gift, a compliment or an honest opinion.

Apart from the obvious but still all-powerful neverending wellspring of joy found in loosing yourself in messy and sticky passion with another just as depraved as yourself, there is probably no recurring activity that brings me as much joy as performing live, preferably as a singer, but acting comes a close second.

Shared second place with acting would be a bruised and bloody fight with an opponent who is just slightly stronger and faster than myself, or an intense session of writing from inspiration and passion (as opposed to the technical writing that always threatens to drag down the souls of us journalists to murky waters ;) ).

Thread is losing some steam here, so I'll just bump with something that I forgot to put.

3. Karaoke

I love to do karaoke. I'm probably really terrible at it, but it's generally really fun.
