Cabal Online: Really easy to pick up, but the music and style will stick for a long time. It's also f2p.

Vindictus: Fairly recent on the NA and EU market, but I've enjoyed playing it. It's DMC mixed with dungeons, and both gameplay and story are quite refreshing. Also f2p.

I am another one who is all in on EQ2 - there is a ton to do, game looks great and you dont have to sub until you really want to delve into the game deeply.

DCU Online is the best bet. As someone who never played MMO's before this one, DCU really fun to play and I put a good many hours into it.

Stay away from MMO's if you know what's good for you. They suck out your soul and your wallet. Mostly the wallet, but the soul too.

Just to chime in, DDO and LotRO aren't free. Or to be specific, the amount of free content is roughly equal to what you'd find in a Free Trial of a paid MMO. Beyond that, you generally either have to sub or pay for content.

In general, the "Free" tag is applied to almost anything these days, but in truth many "free" games are glorified demos or such and require money, frequently more than a sub game would take, to be truly enjoyed.

I would say Guild Wars or maybe at least Guild Wars 2 since it's competely different to GW 1. If you feel like you will be missing out from something from the first game then you can always get GW 1 later.
