There's one I found ages ago that re-builds half the game. You start off as an immigrant in Anvil and everything's open to you, even a rebuilt Kvatch. You start the main storyline by being arrested by a head of the watch in the Imperial City.

There's one still in the works that extends the Dark Brotherhood storyline by a lot as well, fully voice acted and adds a few more sanctuaries too.

The central resource for oblivion mods. Any mod in the top 100 that catches your fancy will probably be well enough made to be worth while. Ones of particular note are:

Deadly refelx: improves combat by making it more in depth, adds critical strikes, shield bashing, kicks, decapitations, slit wrists, slit throats, special sneak attacks, new combat mechanics. ect. It makes mealee a very involved experience.

Midas magic: hundreds of new, amazing spells. You can find youtube videos of it, but they're all very creative. It comes along with a very balanced, immersive, and fun way of acquiring new spells. a must have for mage characters.

FCOM: This just makes the game 100x better flat. hundreds of new weapons, hundreds of new enemies, (I'm being literal here) new factions, new leveling system, everythings been rebalanced...I just a name everything it does, it makes oblivion a whole new game. An overhaul mod in the truest sense. But it's a pain in the ASS to install, so be wary. Here's their site:

Unique landscapes: Self explanitory really. And it removes most peopls main complaint about the game. Very well.

I remember my days as an Oblivion modder. Fairly easy to make items, people and places. I kind of miss those days. And let me say that even though I am younger than most of you here and Oblivion isn't really very old, I still have strong feelings of nostalgia about that game. It almost seems like years and years since I was playing and modding that partly because of how long 2007-2009 seems in my mind but I've been ranting long enough. Get the nude mods. Haha, they were awesome when I was 14 and time has only increased their quality.

I'd recommend playing it without mods at least once before installing anything new.
I've had a PS3 version to enjoy the basic game. A Xbox version to enjoy the offical mods. Now I have the PC version to enjoy fan made bliss

Absolutely, unequivocally necessary: The Unofficial Oblivion Patch [http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5296]. There's a reason its tagline is "Close shut the flaws of Oblivion!".

Aside from that, despite its complicated installation requirements, I use and heartily endorse FCOM: Convergence [http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12249]. This nifty Mod combines Oscuro, Martigen, Francesco and WarCry together into one awesome, challenging whole. (Sadly, they did not go with my naming idea- the Oscuro Martigen Francesco Gambit, or OMFG.)

(Dammit vivaldiscool. Ninja'd. :p )

Beyond that, everything is optional. The more intensive the Mod, the slower Oblivion will run; I've found that tools like Oblivion Mod Manager [http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097] and Wrye Bash [http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22368] are absolutely vital. You are going to have to go through a little bit of a learning curve with some of these, but hey....

Hmmmm...

FIRST: Get the oblivion mod manager. It'll save you time and headaches.

Obscuro's Oblivion Opverhaul: Makes everything mo betta

Martigen's Monster Mod: Adds more variety to the goblins/minotaurs/skeletons/etc. you are killing, and adds a few new monsters. Optionally adds more spawns as well.

Blackie's CM partner mod: Adds NPCs that you can get to help you out, recommended if you are using Mart's.

Deadly Reflex: Adds more depth to combat, improved blocking, better dodging, kicking, shield bashing, etc.

There is an endless number of weapon and armour mods out there, some are great, some are crap.

Someone already linked TESnexus; take some time, go through and pick out what you would like to add to the game.

Also, go onto tesnexus, and download the Female eye candy. I use the underwear mod, but go with the nude if that's your thing. It just makes the girls' bodies look more like...girls' bodies.
If you get OBMM(Oblivion Mod Manager), there's a lot of good ones in this collection: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12801

Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul.

That's it. Don't overdo it on the mods.

I actually found it beneficial to mod the heck out of it. If you get well made ones and keep it balanced, it can only improve the game. Granted if you don't know what you're doing, you can screw stuff up pretty easy.

Also, search "motion blur" on tesnexues. It adds crysis style motion blur. Awesome.
