I think I speak for most people that weren't alive when they were released when I say; The original Star Wars trilogy.

I saw the 1997 version Star Wars films in theatres and they were great. I've also managed to see the re-release of Back to the Future and Ghostbusters, and I'm seeing Jurassic Park next week.

I do sort of wish I'd seen Blade Runner, but the theatrical release wasn't all that good anyway. The "Final Cut" is better.

I did watch Equilibrium at the cinema when it came out, and I have it on DVD of course...

But I'd still love to pay my £20 to see it on IMAX in the cinema again!

Gran Torino for one because it was just a fantastic film over all and Scott Pilgrim because all the flash and sound would be greatly improved in the cinemas. The battle with the twin ex's would be just so much more satisfiying.

star wars episode 4.

My dad and his best friend went to see it. After getting through a huge line-up to get into the theater they say it blew their minds. After walking out once the movie had finished, they got right back in line again.

Sounds AWESOME

Well like most others the obvious first choice is Star Wars back in 1977.

But I would also say 'Sahara'- mostly because I had an absolute blast with it but didn't even hear about it until after it had come and gone from cinemas. Yes, I'm talking the 2005..ish one.

Indiana Jones.
Lawrence of Arabia. (It was advertised as coming soon for Blu-Ray in 2006. Not here yet)
The Godfather.
From Russia With Love.
And I missed Casino Royale in theaters, so I'd like to see that too.

Masque of the Red Death - It's always been one of my favourite films and I would have loved to see it in the cinema. Plus it came out years and years ago, so snacks and admission wouldn't be as expensive as it is now. (Hopefully.)

)rStrangelove]Once upon a time in the West - great movie, got it on bluray now. The soundtrack still gives me the creeps.

I caught this in the cinema recently, restored 35mm print. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

My vote: Mulholland Drive.

Too bad you can't even see it on DVD or Blu-Ray in its original form.
Or, you know, the VHS tapes, which haven't gone anywhere.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring.

The first one, before anyone had any idea what to expect---but a marathon showing of all three would be ideal.

For most of us, there is only one correct answer.

Granted, they did do the 1997 theater run, but I fucking missed that. Phantom Menace happened to be my first Star Wars in the theater, and my first Star Wars in general, until I saw Empire on TV a year later. God bless you, Fox.

EDIT: Or Goldeneye, given how big of a James Bond fan I am. But, you know, I was 2 at the time.

EDIT AGAIN: Or Repo! The Genetic Opera. That movie's fucking awesome. If you haven't seen it, find it on DVD.

The original theatrical screening of the original Star Wars trilogies. Not this re-re-re-re-release (slight hyperbole) crap.

God damn you Lucas, and your edits. -__-

OT: I'd want to see A Clockwork Orange. Just to see the looks on people's faces.

More recently, I wished I could have seen the Trigun movie when it came to my town. It looks amazing.

Avatar. I know it doesn't win any awards for storytelling or originality, but a small TV screen does not do that film justice, and it would've been spectacular to see that in 3D in theaters.

It's all eye candy, the rest is meaningless fluff.
Hence the reason I said "I know it doesn't win any awards for originality." The main draw of seeing it in a theater would be the greatly improved visuals.

Then I suggest you get it for the first and last 20 minutes, and a few scenes in between. That's pretty much it.
