Metal of all kinds, some rap, some trance and techno, and classical. I also like japanese traditional music because it's soothing. I gotta have something to counterweight the badass beats and rocking out so I don't get overamped and kill like 80 people. lol

edit- oh, and Rammstein, LOTS of Rammstein.
editedit- Trivium also makes a good one called "Like Light to the Flies". tasty.

I listen to music, not the poor excuses for harmonic constructs covered by lyrics that somehow became popular.

He he, I'm a harsh bastard I know, and not very specific. Be satisfied by me saying: "If an artist focuses on lyrics, the result will be auditory crap." This rule has exceptions, the only one's I've seen are where the intent of the lyrics is to be funny (credits songs for Portal and Gears of War) or ocassionally a poem being sung (Greensleeves).

So what I listen to mostly has no words, principly video game soundtracks (Halo, Gears of War, Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Prince of Persia, etc.)

My prime choices are:
-Rock
-metal
-blues
-SOME rap
-classical
-foreign music (ie: jap, latin music, ect..)
-video game music (Nobuo Uematsu is one of the most brilliant game AND music composers ever)

out of most most them i prefer the music over lyrics. So many songs I have heard that have had wonderful music but crappy lyrics. I find that it takes a lot more talent and thought to pull of a musical number with no lyrics but lets the song tell the story itself. This is a prime reason i love game, movie soundtracks, they in themselves tell the story.

and whoever invented hip hop should go die, seriously just DIE!!

I've yet to find a genre that I dislike without exception. I can always find something I like in any kind of music, and I hope that continues. My theory is that any band, regardless of how much I may dislike them, is capable of releasing one song that I'll enjoy. I don't believe I've been proven wrong on this yet.

As far as favourite bands go, the exact list will tend to vary by the day, but I'll always be a big fan of things like Lagwagon, Silver Sun, Aerosmith, Mono, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Breeders... the list goes on. And on. Aaaaaand on. But on a regular day, I can veer from cheesy chart pop to death metal, via everything in between and a quick journey into the oft-cited left field where all the bizarre stuff comes from.

I like something from pretty much every genre in existence. Most of what I listen to fits into electronic or rock, but there is so much diversity within those two categories that that doesn't really tell you anything, does it? It's like saying I like meat and vegetables. For this reason, it's a lot easier to list the genres I don't like than the ones I do, because there are fewer. So here goes:

What I don't like.

* Most modern pop music [I like a lot of 80s pop music [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New%20wave], though]
* Most pop rock
* Modern country music [Though I do like some alternative country like Wilco [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilco]]
* Modern RnB
* Hip-pop [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Eyed_Peas] and other forms of faux [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soulja_Boy]-rap [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_Cent]
* HI-NRG, NU-NRG, Speed garage, eurodance, happy hardcore, epic trance, and other forms of horrible, cheesy and repetitive electronic music that give the rest of the genre a bad name.
* Most death metal
* Gore metal [It's just tasteless attention-seeking crap, extreme for the sake of being extreme]
* Some experimental music [only the elitist, artsy crap that is overcomplicated just for the sake of being so and doesn't really push any boundaries (except those of good taste)]

There you have it.

You are contradictory. That's something like saying you love rock but rock and roll should never have existed. Are you unaware that hip hop music and rap are (more or less) one and the same?

nope to me they are two different genres, hence them being named differently. I'd rather not get into it all, since i don't got the time, but SOME rap mean very very little. I just hate pop artists, enough said.

I love me my Rock. I like the ocassional Metal song as long as it's not screaming random crap, and a race to see who can break their guitar fastest. It's a rather big competition between the Rhythm Guitarist and the Lead Guitarist.
Anyway, Rock bands I love are Muse, RATM, System of a Down, OK Go... (Opens iTunes) ... The Beatles, and a lot of other bands.
However, I hate Pop. Well, new Pop is bad, old pop was excellent frankly. Things like Take on Me, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun are extremely great to listen to.
I also like Japanese music, Rock and Pop. Bands like Tomoyasu Hotei, L'Arc~En~Ciel, Kishidan, and a lot of other bands.
Well, I've spoken for way too long.

Not really, as a very ad-hoc explanation, rapping - and, therefore, rap - is basically just the vocal technique, while hip hop is the music itself. It takes many different forms and a lot of different sub-genres have evolved. Besides the mainstream stuff, we're talking:

-early electro
-'classic' hip hop from the 80s and early 90s
-alternative hip hop (as vague a term as that is)
-instrumental and abstract hip hop

Personally, I like some early hip hop (like Eric B. and Rakim) and some of the alternative and instrumental hip hop of today. Gorillaz, Dan the Automator, Deltron 3030, DJ Shadow, and Dr. Octagon are a few examples.

I just hate pop artists, enought said
If by that you mean travesties like Soulja Boy, I agree completely.

Radiohead is awesome, Led Zeppelin is great as well. But some of my favorite songs are featured in Wes Anderson movies. Wes has an amazing way of giving perspective to the music with the screne, rather than to the scene with the music. Quentin Tarantino does a nice job of this also, but Wes is better.

I'll listen to different genres depending on my mood.

Normal, avarage mood: Late 70's to early 90's hard rock / hair metal. (Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Ratt, Bon Jovi, Poison, Kiss, AC/DC...)

Angry or sad: Trance (Trance Wave, SinSonic, DarK NebuLa)

Happy or excited: J-Pop / J-Rock (whatever is playing on Kawaii-Radio at the moment)

I basically like anything. Music is like food; why limit to one kind? I am adamantly against Rap which my library is completely devoid of.
I've taken a recent liking to Electronica and really enjoy the theme to the upcoming Half Life 2 Mod Black Mesa Source [http://www.blackmesasource.com/media/music/BMS-01-theme.mp3].
My favorite by a longshot is classical music (12.8 Hours of 74.3), like Tchaikovsky or Mozart. I have yet to get any Rachmaninov although I really want some.
(Anyone here listen to CBC Vancouver's 'I hear Music'?)

70s/80s rock, any Canadian bands today (Great Big Sea, Nickelback, etc), I also find some video game background music to be fun to listen to at times.

Anything with good guitar and a good vocalist to back it up. I love System Of A Down, Slayer, Serj Tankien, Led Zeppelin, and even some Coheed once in a while. fallout boy is horrible, and it's all over the airwaves. I just can't stand very many new bands.
