I usually listen to Jazz, Hip-Hop, Alt-Rock, Funk, Black Metal, Post-Rock, Prog Rock and Electronica but lately I have been listening to alot of Classical composers due to watching Legend of The Galactic Heroes most likely. My favourite composers at the moment being Gustav Mahler, Igor Stravinsky, Erik Satie, Gustav Holst, Johann Sebastien Bachas and Ludwig Van Beethoven as well as Max Richter and Steve Reich who do modern classical.

I have still been listening to alot of Yoko Kanno, Ling Tosite Sigure and Shiina Ringo though as well.

I go with Iron Maiden, Stratovarius, Hammerfall, Nightwish, HIM, KISS, W.A.S.P., Sabaton, Crashdiet, Mötley Crüe, Hardcore SuperStar, Scorpions and so many more. These are all band alive today but I also listen to older stuff in the Rock N' Roll genre like:
Dokken, QueensRyche, Warrant, RATT, Cinderella etc etc
As long as we're in the Rock N' Roll / Metal genre I am pretty happy
Of course there is good stuff outside the genre I prefer but usually just a song or two from each artist

I tend to listen to a variety of rock music, with a preference for psychedelic rock and genres with lots of emphasis on guitar feedback and early Velvet Underground-ish sound like Shoegaze. I also like to listen to a lot of folk music like Jackson C Frank and Bert Jansch, as well as a fair bit of blues music.

Exclusively classical. I listen to the big names like Mahler (who doesn't like Mahler?), Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Shostakovitch, Scriabin, Maslanka, Liszt, and Smetana.

Here's one of my favorite pieces by Smetana.

And another two pieces I just like.

I can't really pin my taste to genre to be honest because I tend to like bands or songs. I like a variety of metal, rock, blues, folk, punk, some electronic stuff, etc.

I also quite like me some game OST's, I'm particularly fond of Sonic OST's and The Black M ages work.

Here's a few tracks I like:

I doubt I need to explain this too much, it rings true and it's a kickass tune with some fantastic guitar work
I love this because it's upbeat, a bit cheesy and has some great riffs
Get's under my skin and it's a sentiment I understand, feeling like you're lost and may never find a place to belong
because the world needs drinking music!
Dark, gritty and vulgar, a song with some beautiful guitars and bass, it sticks in your head and it carries deep meaning for the artist, I won't go into it here but a quick google search will clarify
A beautiful remastering of the original track, I highly recommend the 2010 Remaster of Pretty Hate Machine. This song is dark, sexy and has a great beat, it sticks in your head and this version just sounds amazing. Seduction for the ears from Reznor at his finest
You just can't deny a bit of Queen, absolute genius.

That'll do for now and it should give you a feel for what I like to listen to, there's more to it and there is a wider variety but I tend to prefer anything that isn't just about love.

Edit: What I'm listening to right now? JUDAS MOTHERFUCKING PRIEST!

Well as of late I've been listening to Italian, French and German music. Especially Yelle and Nena. Also lot's of movie soundtracks...

But in general I can get behind most genres if the song/band is good. That said I'm generally not very keen about heavy metal, or stuff like 5FDP. I still like some of it just most of it is just a bit too much for me. Oh and I despise Smashing Pumpkins and similar bands for the most part.

Anything that's not [c]rap or its variants.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of classic rock and video game music.

Hoo boy... Music thread. Look, word of warning: don't get me started on music. Because I will not shut the hell up about music. I'll talk your ear off about all of the bands that I like and try to make you listen to them.

Thankfully, I'm merciful and I put it all in spoiler tags. Click at your own risk.

I will talk about how Larry and His Flask is a good contribution to both punk and country music. Or how Streetlight Manifesto teaches you how to appreciate a good brass section. Or the subtleties in a Moby song. Or whatever the fuck Aesop Rock is saying. Or that Sage Francis will write a rap song that will make you cry. Or that Ratatat is stoned off their asses but make fantastic music because of it. Or how Atmosphere is both bitter and beautiful in their music. Or Steam Powered Giraffe has exceptional showmanship. Or how Born Ruffians will make you a hipster and you will like it. Or how Mumford and Sons will make you want to learn how to play the acoustic guitar. Or how Foster the People will make you want to groove which is what makes a good pop song. Or how Radiohead... well okay, I don't think I need to say anything about Radiohead. Or how DJ Shadow will make you stoned without pot. Or how Daft Punk... well okay, again, I don't need to explain. Or that Tommy Guerrero is damn sexy with a guitar. Or how Madeon is house music's second coming of christ! ... Okay, that one was a little extreme, I'll admit. But damn it! He was a bloody kid when he started making music!

Or how these songs are these songs are just awesome.

Or, most importantly, how Weezer was the best band ever during the 90s then completely sucked ass now.

Well, my favourite band is, at the moment, probably the Zutons. But the genre I've listened to the most in my life (and still do) is rap. I listen to pretty much anything though. I don't listen to much heavy metal or dubstep, but I know songs in both genres that I really enjoy....

Two Steps From Hell.

I've been listening to them obsessively for the last week or two. It's just amazingly inspirational music if you're trying to get something done. Beautiful stuff.

Edit: How could I have forgotten...

Pretty much the same as you, OP, the majority of my music library is metal but I'm open to all genres. I do tend to look down upon most modern mainstream music though, rap, pop, etc. Those genres aren't without their gems though I have to admit.
Ditto.

Though honestly im a bigger fan of some of the northern european metal bands (nightwish, Within Temptation etc. Nightwish being my favorite), over the classics like metallica and AC/DC.

I dont actively listen to it, but im a fan of jazz. America's true music, and all i listened to at home thanks to my dad's huge-ass collection of Jazz and Motown. The only reason i made the shift to metal was because of Dragonforce (and the infamous Through the Fire and Flames made famous by guitar hero) and a single nightwish song that was used (rather un-fittingly honestly) on a mod showcase video for Star Wars: Empire at War.

Funny how little things can wind up shaping your life so much isn't it?

Mostly instrumental stuff: electronica, post rock, some of the nicer dubstep (Blackmill for example). I also listen to stuff like Purity Ring, Of Monsters and Men and Galt Aureus. Examples from each genre/artist

Mainly thrash metal, with bands like Tankard, Overkill and Annihilator in the top.
Spend a lot of time listening to Swedish trallpunk as well. M.I.D., Senap, Dia Psalma(more folk punk) and their previous band Strebers are the favorites there.

To those that doesn't know of Swedish trallpunk:

It's a bit more happy and cheerful than regular punk, but the lyrics are often quite depressing.
