for me, it would be the bongos. They were over used in poetry cafes, and they never sound good or serious
Are you nuts?
Have you ever heard latin jazz?
I'll go find you some.

I totally appreciate that, but I consider those more of the hand drums like a djembe than I do for a bongo. When I imagine a bongo, I thin of the little drums stuck together than tuneless idiots play to make their piece sound deeper
But those are real kongas...

How is the tuba not a relevant instrument? I'm in my school's band, and even if we played our very best, we'd sound like absolute crap without the tuba players here.]

I really hate the sound of the french horn.
What's wrong with it? Yeah, it's hard to get a good sound out of it, but that doesn't mean it's a bad sounding instrument.

Seriously, is nobody here worried that some musician will come here and be annoyed as hell when they see that you've called the instrument they play useless, irrelevant, or ugly sounding?

That being said, I didn't like the recorder very much when I was forced to play it. That may be because I was terrible at it. Funnily enough, I started playing the french horn a year after I had to play the recorder, and I did fairly well (for a beginner.)

I dislike how schools teach little kids the recorder. They could've picked an instrument that doesn't sound so horribly when played badly.

bagpipes ever heard one then you should now why I hate them
Punctuation. Ever heard of it? Then you should know why it's important.

Plus, bagpipes are amazing. The sound they make is glorious.

Do people not even acknowledge Classical* music anymore? You can't play Beethoven's Ninth without a piccolo, and the tuba in Wagner's Lohengrin is amazing.

*Classical referring to the commonplace term for non-contemporary music, not the Classical period, which I'd rather just forget about (mostly)

the theremin is useless as far as actual music goes, still fun to play with though

electric guitars, they arent irrelevant i just hate those things taking all the attention away from the bass, when was the last time you heard a song give the bass a solo?

I'm with people on the recorder being a tool of evil... or at least fucking atrocious sounding elementary and highschool music classes.
The theremin sounds terrible. I thought I was listening to a dying animal.

That wasn't one of the best examples of it, since the one above didn't have a good vibrato. Here's a better example:

It's more of an eerie sing-song tone than the blaring screech of the above vid.

I agree either triangle or the sybols
Whatever a 'sybol' is.

For me, being a pretentious pianist with a 4-year music degree and who will be starting graduate work in music this fall, my hated instrument is the guitar.

Yes, the guitar. Why? Because there's so many stupid jock idiots out there who pick up the guitar simply because it looks cool or they like Guitar Hero, and absolutely refuse to learn how to read music..."I'll just play by ear" they say. And then their teachers ENCOURAGE it. And then everyone thinks they're the fucking shit because they can play a couple popular tunes.

Actually, this goes for piano, my chosen instrument, as well. When people can only play by ear and only ever play Coldplay or Ben Folds or other things (BADLY, I might add), they are considered soooooooo awesome. But when I play something that's technically challenging, musically diverse, and gorgeous, like Mendelssohn's D-minor variations, the space around the piano rapidly thins out as people whine "play something good!"

Fuck.
That.

You sir, just won the internet. Fellow trombonist here :D. Also, in my personal opinion..oboes are incredibly annoying when played by anyone that isn't a professional. And piccolo's can be made to sound good, but the pitch is still enough to make a blood vessel pop...

Oh yes, a thousand times yes.
They strum three chords and are all like, "I'm awesome" and they get all the ladies.

I've been playing piano for almost Ten. Freaking. Years. And I still get no respect. The hell? This guy can't even tell me the difference in between an augmented fourth and a diminished fifth or recite the circle of fifths or tell me how many sharps there are in C major. It's a travesty!

People do respect some good jazz, though. Try learning some Wynton Kelly or James P. Johnson or even some Art Tatum if you're feeling adventurous.

Think of mainstream music. Hip-hop, techno and such. If you listen to the music behind it, it's barely tolerable but when you add the microphone and lyrics, BAM, a big shit on your face. For example, there's a shitty song the lyrics of which consist of "I might like you better if we slept together". Though it would be a double-edged sword to get rid of lyrics because there are some good ones out there. The majority of it just kills the decent music behind it.

Soon we can rise in power and defeat the lesser winds. To start the list no Clarinets, Piccolos, Some oboes. But lets keep the Baritones ,and Tubas. I also play those >.>

I do play a lot of Joplin and similar, so that at least gets a little attention. But I can never play anything truly good around non-music-major people, because it's never appreciated.

Psssssssssssssssssh
Joplin is for lazy pianists.

Go learn something Wynton Kelly played.
You'll love me later.
