Robert Lowe, of Solitude Aeturnus, Candlemass, Concept Of God, etc. He is hands-down the greatest vocalist I have ever heard, yet his bands make absolutely zero profit from their music and have to hold down regular jobs in between (and sometimes during) tours just to eat. It may be an underground form of music to most, but it's still a travesty that such a fine vocalist is so unknown.

too awesome to be so unpopular, everyone who's ever heard them at least thinks they're great. everyone else hasn't heard of them.

i actually heard of these guys long before they were on rockband and have three of their albums, but this is as close as they've ever really come to fame. They're critically acclaimed in the extreme, like big star, yet, inexplicably, are almost unknown among most people. Best song, I'd say, is bastards of young, but they just rule and deserve to be better known.

FYI- Alex Chilton is the singer/guitarist for big star, the song is about him and how he should have been more famous.

I'm still on the fence about tom waits, some songs are great (Downtown train and hold on), but a lot of the time he just puts on a weird roaring devil voice and it ruins his songs. He's definitely an original, but I just can't get past some of his more ridiculous vocals.
