Hopefully the inevitable ludicrously exaggerated national stereotypes won't seem too crass and offensive to anyone (I could stuff some pillows in a big t-shirt and wear this apron with a burger on it and say I'm American... I kid, I know most of you probably aren't like that), but anyway, my friend is using nationalities/cultures as a theme for her 18th. The costumes don't have to embody the main national stereotype, just something associated with any particular nationality. My friend's dressing up as a samurai or some other kind of Asian warrior type so it might be fun to go as something else involving weapons, or as an old-fashioned English gentleman with a top hat or a bowler hat and all (although, it might seem stupid if I'm a girl, oh well) with the accent and poncy olden-day speak.
I'm smitten because I just discovered the box of old dress-up clothes I thought we'd got rid of. I should be able to pull something together and I have a lot of time. I'm still trying to think of ideas, though.
What do you think would be the most fun/interesting to dress up as? Yes, this is sort of an advice thread disguised as a general discussion thread and I just want to see if there are any ideas I can steal...
