SWAT 4.
Forget zombies, aliens and whatnot...you have realistic levels of health, can't save during a mission and there are criminals with machine guns, body armour and gas masks. Every corner, doorway or staircase is scary.
Also, to an extent, the C&C2 expansion, though it was sorta a horror game by that point.

I'm not going to lie here. It was one early part in one game. The Fellowship of the Ring. Mind you I was 11 years old but escaping the Ringwraiths while attempting to leave the shire was the scariest thing I had experienced for a long time. You couldn't even do all that much about it once they found you. I had read the books and my thoughts of those plus their presentation(mostly that horrifying screech) scared the hell out of me.. Actually....I don't recall ever finishing that game. I feel like quite the coward now.
Easily Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, on the N64.

Ocarina of Time used to creep me out and Majora's Mask looks really creepy but I haven't played that yet.
Other than those I'd go for Demon Souls. The incredibly dark atmosphere and constantly fearing for your life because of the difficulty, it messes with you sometimes.

I thought Half-Life 2's Ravenholm (on the first run-through at least) was pretty creepy, what with all the zombies and fast zombies and poison headcrabs. Oh god, the poison headcrabs...

That was actually pretty scary. It also felt very realistic. The enemies yelled stuff at you and you never knew what was going to happen. I freaked out once when first trying it because I didn't know the button for cuffing (now I'll always remember it's defaulted J) and there was a criminal who I had to spray to keep him not attacking me and I didn't know what to do to him. I didn't know how to cuff him so I ended up just spraying the pepper spray and shooting him even though I didn't really want to.thaluikhain said:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone(I'm an American) for the pc. Even though Filch was my favorite character, that part which you had to sneak away from him really made me a little paranoid. The sequel, Chamber of Secrets, also bother me due to the spiders going a little faster than their movie counter parts.
In my opinion, it's supposed to be quite a horrorish scene.subject_87 said:

flipping this! i can't remember how old i was, but it scared the living daylights out of me. I actually struggled to pick up the game for a few weaks it had such an effect on me. the noise of the magic eye is what partially did it, and my magic running out and me fearing that i wouldn't be able to see some hidden danger!Outright Villainy said:
i'm trying to remember the other example i had but i can't as it is entirely eclipsed by that one childhood memory. Its odd, because i've played that part of the game tonnes of times since and not been phased, even laughed at how pathetic i was being scared by it. But the memory itself sends a shiver down my spine.
Halo. 343 Guilty Spark level. It's the one where you first encounter the Flood. After going through half a game fighting aliens, I'm suddenly dropped in the middle of a swamp. I get aliens that used to have no problem attacking me, running and not giving me a second look. A crashed dropship, dead marines that weren't killed by the aliens, evidence of firefights that covered--and destroyed--entire rooms, no live Elites, a crazy marine who's mumbling to himself, and finally that video clip you find. And to top it all off, after trying desperately to kill the little spores, to turn around and suddenly find a full Flood charging me...yeah. The first time I played that level, I was a little unnerved. Loved it though.
