Something a bit like Eve Online set in David Weber's Honor Harrington universe could be cool, if people were willing to let fights play out over hours instead of minutes.

An MMO set in Peter F. Hamilton's Night's Dawn setting would be amazing, I think. Or at least have the potential to be.

And an old-school point-and-click adventure based on the Culture novels of Iain M. Banks also has potential IMO.

a bethesda-style rpg set on the discworld would be pure refined awsomeness.
however a bioware (read mass-effect style) rpg set in the mortal engines world would be just as if not more epic

Starship Troopers.

If someone gets it right then they have just made one of the earliest, and game friendly, examples of a Space Marine into a game.

E Chronicles of the Black Company series by Glen Cook.
I'm going to second this, but also point out that Bungie SORT OF did this already, with Myth (not kidding).

Recently I read a book called "Way of Shadows", which as you can tell by the cover, is basically Assassin's Creed with a fantasy setting. Sure, it would be an AC rip-off, but there's nothing wrong with that... right?
That's the "Night Angel Trilogy" that the others have been talking about (which I personally hate).

Hmmm, I didn't know that, maybe because I was 10 when the last myth game came out...
Looks intriguing, I think I just might try to find them somewhere..

I definatley try a Discworld MMO but I'd quite like a game based on the CHERUB series. I can imagine an LA Noire-esque experience with investigations and various other espionage activities

How about a text adventure?

What will you do?
>Eat green eggs and ham
You can't eat ye green eggs and ham!

And then you're left wondering why you can't eat ye green eggs and ham.
I really hate it when I cannot get ye flask as well...

A Series of Unfortunate Events! I used to love those books and the game for the Xbox classic and the movie. I want to see the rest of the books made into games like what Alice Madness Returns looks like.

What about a game set in Bas-Lag [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bas-Lag]?

Or maybe something based on the Chronicles of Amber [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronicles_of_Amber]? Multiverses always offer a lot of possibilities.

Or Earthsea [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthsea], because game developers need to fcuking learn that Tolkien was not the only fantasy writer in history.

A game set in the Discworld universe by Terry Pratchett or the Xanth universe by Piers Anthony would be awesome in my opinion. Both are quite expansive worlds with plenty of opportunities for interesting gameplay. The satirical nature of either series would lend it's self well to a Fable like game.
fuck i never thought of a discworld game, that sounds epic!

so many possibilities...
i think it would be best suited to an oblivion/skyrim-ey game
Or just a point&click [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discworld_%28video_game%29] adventure [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discworld_2] game [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discworld_Noir].

The whole Combat-K novel series by Andy Remic. If you want ass-kicking, gut-punching, below-the-waist humor and action-packed... well, action science fiction, then those are books for you. And i'd love to meet Franco Haggis

Has anyone done a game off of A Clockwork Orange or 1984? You could do a lot with those two.
