Hello again, Escapist citizens.

I went to an anime/videogame convention last weekend and bought a copy of Sega Smashpack Vol.1 for the Dreamcast. One of the games (out of twelve) inside was Streets of Rage 2. I love this game! It is addicting and challenging; I'm currently playing through on Hardest mode (there's a higher difficulty after that called Mania, but you need a code (and a second controller to input the code, which I don't have)), but I've failed thus far. And I've been playing it on Hardest for many years (note that I've easily beaten this game on Easy, Normal, and Hard modes).

Are there any old-school (8, 16-bit, or otherwise pre-2000) games you are playing through these days?

I have the old D&D Silver Edition Archive set that I play via Dosbox, and if I ever get around to plugging in my 3.5 floppy drive, I'll play the old Dragonlance games that I still have floating around, too.

Oh dear god i never stop playing old school games. Always play a little old school after playing some current gen. Well let's see:

-mega man series (you name it I play it)
-Final fantasy 6
-super metroid
-legend of legia
-legend of dragoon
-RECCA
-Contra
-star ocean
-chrono trigger (for the *counts in his head* oh god i'v lost count)

the list goes on. I grew up with the old school and will play them till the day I die. Just my way of showing respect for game when they where super fun and quality.

To Ixus Illwrath: Yeah, Minesweeper is fine. I like playing that game on occasion, but I always lose at it.

To -Seraph-: You are awesome and I agree with you 110%. Old school games are where the fun is at. And I've played most of the Mega Man games as well (excluding Battle Network and Star Force series), Super Metroid is the shit, Contra will never die, I love Chrono Trigger (and yeah, I've played it too many times as well), and how can I forget Zelda.

I remember games like Vectorman, Altered Beast, Pulseman, Rocket Knight (or Sparkster), the old Mario platformers (first, second, third, World, World 2), Shinobi (Shadow Dancer, Revenge, and Return), Strider, Ristar, Comix Zone, Parasite Eve (I thought this game was one of Squaresoft's (before the merger with Enix) best), Actraiser (both one and two), Joe and Mac, and ugh...damn, so many of them!

Thank you to the many posters for taking your time to contribute to this post. I appreciate it. It's nice to know there are people out there who still keep to the classics which made videogames stand out from today's ultra-photorealistic, cinematic expenditures.

I still play
Abe's Oddysee
Abe's Exoddus
Worms: Armageddon
Age of Empires II
Rayman (I hate every Rayman game after the first one though)
and Superfrog (the very first game I ever played, runs on a floppy disk (or these days just a disk) it's a great little platformer, and to regain health you drink Lucozade, come on, how cool is THAT?)

I recently got the Atari Retro pack for the DS. I love playing Asteroids, Centipede, Breakout and Missle Command on it. Centipede is my favorite of the ones on here. It has both the classic port of each game plus a re-made version with different graphics and in some cases, changed gameplay. I actually like some of the re-made versions, especially Centipede, which I think is actually better than the original.

I also still play Legend of Zelda, Tetris (I'm almost an addict and play it more often than just about any game), Sonic (the original version ported for Gameboy Advance) and I love Ninja Five-0 (remember that game?)

Echoing what some others have said, I'm playing Marathon, Tyrian, Chrono Trigger (DS), Tales of Phantasia, Baldur's Gate, and Xenogears. I am known to play games both older and more recent.
Haven't played Fallout lately. I guess after the hundredth time I decided to take a break for a while.
