I want to start a multiplayer game - one the relies on groups and socialising to get through it. I don't mind grinding (To a point) and I prefer something that has a good range in classes. I've played WoW in the past so I don't want to play that... Suggestions?

Do you want to wake up in the morning two months from now with a soul? I suggest you just don't start.

But if you really want to, Eve Online maybe?

I considered it daunting at first, praise the lord for that EVE tutorial, it got me back into those Spacey kinda games though, after X3:Terran Conflict crushed any Liking of it.

Riseing Force Online is pretty good. There's a good range of classes, 3 races, 4 base classes for each race (except one with only has 3). Once you've leveled up a bit it can be quite important to socialise, especially during the wars. It's very PvP orientated with the 3 races regularly fighting each other in the war. It has a good back story as well, but it isn't totally necessary to read it if you don't want to.

All in all a good game if you like PvP.

An MMO you mean?

I hear Champions Online is great.
That's not even funny...just kinda cruel.

I'd say try Fallen Earth.
Champions Online is miles better than Fallen Earth. Fallen Earth is a glitchy, laggy pile of crap.

That said? Try City of Heroes or wait a while and go for APB. APB is by far the best looking MMOG that currently has previews.

Yeah, I'd wait for APB.

Oh, wait, I AM waiting for APB. ^_^ Join me, won't you?

If not, City of Heroes/Villains was fun. I dug it for the year of my life it claimed.

Currently hard to recommend anything. F2P id rule out due to the F2P factor - you dont pay you dont get to play the end game really. From the P2P you have choice between a slow start of Eve-O but you have to enjoy the style of gameplay it offers, AoC which got an expansion lately and still struggles to really keep above the line or FE, which can be really annoying with the way the crafting works, or Aion.. but its your generic korean MMO like Lineage.
Rest didnt seem to stand out of the crowd.

Rose Online was a bit boring, played it when it came out though. Guess the upside of it is that it's free. I came from Ragnarok to it, thinking this was the way forward.. it wasn't. As for ragnarok, it's aged too much and is just a grind-fest.

Age of Conan was dissapointing, the PvP style of it is bad as well because as any melee class you have to do combo swings at people to do your skills.. and they have to connect too. With people spazzing around it's a bit annoying. I guess now it will have more content so you don't have to do a bit of grinding to get up there and it might have an end-game now. They promised seige wars at the start, but couldn't really handle a large amount of people in one place. Well, they promised a lot.

I'd recommend WoW but also recommend you stay away from it. It was a great experience when I was playing it and had some great times, but being sucked into it too much is never good. You can end up doing the end-game over n over with your guild like a drone.. drains a good part of your life. I broke-free of it a lot of times and for good before WotLK. Everything else was great though.

Try eve online, if you want to try something different from wow, its about far away from being wow while still being an MMO. Eve is hard to get used to and get into though, but if you do find a group of fun people to play with, and if you can get your head around that fact that the point of the game is not to grind quests and gain levels you will find it immensely enjoyable. Essentially eve has no end game content like other mmos, there is just content, so once you learn the game, and this will take a while unfortunately, go out and find a corp (aka guild), and have fun with the game, a lot of people tend to get bored because they shovel themselves into the mmo trap where they think they have to grind for hours, and make their character good before they can join the rest of the game.
