NOTE: This is strictly about western animated series only. No films, and no anime. Just to be absolutely clear.
Jumping off from the thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.881256-Are-There-Animated-Series-Aimed-at-Adults-That-Arent-Comedies] about there not being non-comedic, adult audience animated series in the west, I thought why not think of something to be made into one? There's certainly no shortage of books, comics and the like to be used for such purposes. Which ones in your mind would most benefit from a western animation adaptation?
Having recently discovered Sandman, I think that would be a perfect fit for an animated series. The visuals in the comics are so crazy from time to time that making them in live action is practically impossible. The story is arc-based, so making multiple seasons out of it wouldn't be a chore.
Dark Souls would be fit for an animation adaptation. Call me ignorant, but there's certain trends in anime that would just IMO go against the downbeat, toned down aesthetic. Putting a story in it could come across as forced, but it'd be IMO better suited for a mini-series more focused on visuals and atmosphere than story. Plus I think having those big eyes underneath all that medieval armor would just go against the whole feel of the series.
I also chuckle to myself at the idea of there being a Marvel Zombies adaptation. One can dream...
