My dad. When he handed me my Gameboy Colour at a very early age, and then when he used to play my PS1 with me, on games like Space Invaders.

I think the first game I ever played was Frogger, but I don't remember it that well, being that I was 2 or 3 at the time.
The first game I really remember all the details of playing was Ghostbusters for the Commodore64.
And all I wanted was to be able to make something that some kid would find as fun as I did.

I spent ages playing what would now be considered ancient PC games that loaded off cassettes in all their mono green glory on an old Acorn PC we had in the basement.

But what really pulled me into gaming, was when my parents presented me with a MegaDriveII for my 6th birthday after an awesome holiday in Italy.
That held my attention for most of our 4 year stay in Germany.
Then when moving here I migrated back to PC gaming, playing mostly online games, CS 1.2-1.6 for most of middle school and the first 2 years of high school.
Then I fell into the MMO hole, that was a dark time for me. Getting a tempoary suspension from one of the games I had played due to being online for well beyond the healthy limit. I almost didn't graduate because of my addiction to various MMOs at the time.

But I said good bye to those years ago, and now I'm getting to where I wanted to be when I first realized that gaming was my future.
I'm playing games to learn how to help make them better, I hope at least.

Long rant there.... longer than I intended... oh well.

Pokemon Red for the Gameboy at first. Then I got Tomb Raider: AoD as my first proper gaming purchase, and adored it. Loved games ever since.

Well, we'd always had a NES, so as I grew up games were always just... there, but I was only around three and four when it was there, so when I'd play, I'd just fail, and die. The games that we had were meh, I mean, we had Super Mario Bros., and Duck Hunt, but we didn't have a Nintendo Zapper so I'd just play Duck Hunt to watch the dog make fun of me, if you call that playing. Anyway, I actually remember my introduction to gaming fondly. I was over at my cousin's house when I was 5, hanging out with some other cousins, since it was a big family get together, when suddenly my cousin who actually lived there came running in yelling, "Hey guys, my dad beat Bongo-Bongo!" I had no idea what was going on, so I followed and watched, seeing for the first time in my life, Zelda Ocarina of Time. Naturally I was amazed, and that next Christmas I was begging for an N64. I got my wish... and it wasn't until I was 7 that I actually beat that damn game. xD

Christmas, 1988. Mom got an NES for us (myself, her, and my step father) and thus my gaming life began at the age of three.

My brother owned a 64 when I was 3-5 or something. My first game was OoT, and I've been addicted ever since.

A night of Diablo 2 when I just started majoring in media studies. I was intrigued.

(Well, at first, it was my brother but I had a huge gap of not-gaming between my childhood days and my newly found passion.)

Jazz Jackrabbit on Windows 95.

Also, I had an NES system with a cartridge that had 26 games in it (each labeled A - Z). Only thing I remember is that 'A' was Super Mario Bros

I don't know that a specific thing got me into gaming. Maybe something did that I don't know of, but I've been playing video games for as long as I can recall. One of my earliest memories is of playing Super Mario Bros 3 in a brightly lit room. My Ocarina of Time playthrough count hit the double digits before I did. If I had to say something, thought, I'd ascribe my fondness of video games to either Halo or Zelda.
For Halo, I loved watching my older brother play, and oftentimes playing with him (read: dying constantly but having fun anyways). I lost interest in the games after a while, though I did take a liking to reading the extended universe novels; but I vowed to beat Halo 3 for the sake of completing the series, as I hate to leave things unfinished. I eventually hit up the multiplayer, and I fell in love. Many an all-nighter was spent on that game, and eventually Call of Duty 4, and from there following CoD and Halo games. If only through the sheer amount of time I've invested into online gaming, Halo truly affected my life.
For Zelda, my family rented Majora's Mask once, and I don't remember exactly why, but we didn't do very well. I myself was too young to really be of any help, and the only ones playing were me and my sisters, who were (well, are) basically useless when it comes to video games. In any case, we only made it to the Deku Palace before we had to return it, meaning that, at the time, that was something unfinished, much like the Halo series a few years after. So, I was kind of subconsciously obsessed with the game. Everything about it fascinated me; the dark undertones, the 4 dimensional aspect of it (the 4th dimension being time, and the 3 days representing said dimension), and of course the desire to know what came after the Deku Palace. I wasn't constantly thinking about it, but I could never forget about it. I eventually got my hands on it again, through the Zelda Collector's Edition on the Gamecube (which is still how I play it); now I firmly hold Majora's Mask to be my favorite Zelda game, and I don't think any future installments could hope to topple its' stronghold. Even to this day, I devote about a week annually in the summer to just sit down and do a 100% playthrough of the game. No shit, there's a special place in my heart for Majora's Mask.

Civilization 3, without a doubt. I'd played games before then but the 1000 hours or so of gameplay I've racked up has sort of clinched it.
