What Relaxes You?

What things relax you? Give specific examples of sights, sounds, feelings, etc. that relax you.

I am making a game that is designed to help people relax and overcome anxiety and depression and the idea is to make the player/the character traverse areas that relax him/her.

EDIT: The game idea is very simple and I'm trying not to misguide people. It's not supposed to be some game of epic proportions, here is my current design layout: The game is a 2d adventure game that controls like LIMBO (sidescrolling/platforming/etc.). The game doesn't need to be that long, perhaps between 45 min. - 1 hour, but the idea is that it helps the player to relax. The game also gives you many choices which creates different paths to travel along (creating replayability and making the game different each time you play it). I'm creating it using GameMaker 8.1 pro. A lot of people think that gamemaker is iffy on quality but I believe that it suits my purpose so I'm sticking to it. The game will (most likely) be freeware, available for download for free on the internet. Plain and simple: it's just an experiment. It's not something I want to go down in history for making, but I want to see if I can use seemingly irrelevant events (like, say, watering a plant and having it grow into something beautiful) to relax people, if that makes sense. Again, it's just an experimental game, it probably won't be the next cave story but that's not the point I suppose lol.

Thunderstorms. They are at the top of the pillar towards things that relax me most. I could put on a youtube video of a t-storm and it would either clear my mind or put me to sleep. Actual, real storms will knock me out cold. Love thunderstorms.

Other things that relax me are walks in nature, bird calls (depending on the bird), burning candles, and quiet.

Classical music. Any soundtrack with Piano in it just makes the experience 3x's better. Any dulcet tones will do really.

Stuff like this is just chocolate honey to my ears.

One of the most relaxing songs I know. Ironically, it's from a bullet hell game. For desert levels where you fight floating eyes, spooky trees and sand mafia.

Seconding thunderstorms... it's just a shame they aren't too frequent in this part of England.

I love me some thunderstorms. Even just rainstorms are lovely in my opinion.

Yeah, that and waves. And crickets... and wind. Anything to do with natural phenomena.

I don't find crickets to be relaxing. Being the owner of reptiles, crickets will grate my eardrums and keep me up. They are loud and obnoxious.

But yes, waves and wind. And I believe we all agree on the thunderstorm thing.

Alcohol, cigarettes and sad music. So I guess in your game you could ask the player to go get drunk and take up smoking.

Oh, something else that relaxes me:

Weather stations.

Something about pleasant music and constantly repeating words nods me off.

Also, while crickets are the object of my hatred, frogs and toads are cool in my book.

Will do, I'll let you know how that works out.

Nature is relaxing to me, though the most relaxing place is a campground in the middle of nowhere. The air is completely clean and you have the rich smells of the forest and pine along with the cool breeze carrying the scent of water rolling off the lake.

With the forest comes the sounds of wildlife, you can always hear the birds singing and the small critters scampering along the branches and rustling through the fallen leaves. In the distant you hear the crashing of the waves from lake superior and the faint trickling of the nearby river feeding into it.

Every evening everyone goes to watch the sun set over the lake which just illuminates the water to be bright orange and once the darkness has set in the stars are so bright you can see the milky way. At night, we build a fire and watch the flames lap at the wood we provided and listen to the crap and popping of the sap and the explosions of embers.

And there's a tree shaped like a penis. How could you not enjoy that?

A Hermit's Cave
Baroque music mostly... while walking in the Peak District... while it's overcast... and just after dawn...

Haven't done that in a while...
