I beleive there is a god, but none of the religions so far have it right.
There is ...some thing and afterlife or whatever...but seeing as how we have noway o knowing anything about it im just going to live my life how i see fit according to my own sense of right and wrong and then be judge upon that

Religion just gets in the way of worshipping the One True God - me.
How Nietzschean of you? Did you read that somewhere (perhaps wikipedia?) or did it take some effort to come up with this? Very original. From all of you. Its a nice thread, why not show some creativity with it?

As for my religion, everybody would get free assalth lasers and sunday sermon would be a zombie hunt. And some cake. Chocolate cake.

You have competition, my liege:
-snip-
But he can just eat that competition, to good publicity and his benefit.
Except PETA would go ape shit. But really, who takes them seriously these days?

I wouldn't create one religion. I'd create 200 of the bastards. Every single one of them worshiping the same thing, but the interpretation of each differs slightly in the wording. Then I'd start inciting religious hate between them and watch as each one, convinced it is the one true faith, turns on the rest, causing a mass religious free-for-all orgy of bloodshed and violence.

When the last religion is standing, I'll deliver them the bad news, that I'd copied the religious text from the backs of cereal boxes and the companies who owned the copyright to them are now suing their religion for billions.

I hate people who complain about religion threads. This thread is awesome.

That "We are all Hindus now" article in NewsWeek made me happy.

My religion would make very few claims and would claim their are many paths to enlightenment and the afterlife.

It would be all about doing whatever it is that gives you a spiritual experience.

All spiritual experience would be getting you closer to the great beyond, whatever that may be.

My religion would believe that God sneezed out the universe.
I'm guessing that you're a Douglas Adams Fan then?

OT: My religion would obviously worship wiener dogs. Spreading the message of peace, love and propaganda against Dalmations

I wouldn't. I respect people too much to lie to them and fill them with false hope.

I'd create a religion based entirely around science. I'd call it "New-age Christianity" and it'd revolve solely around disavowing the stories in the old bible and creating new ones that embrace a scientific stand point while still believing in god.

I'll tell you one thing right now. I hate the bible. I absolutely hate it. Not because of it's intended purpose, that I truly love, but because of what it actually does to people. The bible is a group of stories intended to teach us life lessons, but they're just that, stories. People more often than not take them for truth and it pisses me off. People say that god created everything in 6 days. They say this is absolute fact. My roommate's comments on how science is a lie conceived by god in an attempt to weed out the faithless is quite possibly the most horrible thing I have ever heard in my life. The sheer idea that a deity that preaches honesty would lie to us in an attempt to get us to stop believing in him just about made me an athiest because I will not in anyway shape or form follow a such an individual.

But than it got me thinking that some of the old ways need to be reformed and that people need to be educated. Why must evolution be impossible to believe because the way the bible works out suggests otherwise? God didn't create the bible. We humans did millenia ago in order to come to an understanding with a world we knew so little about. But our knowledge of the way things worked has increased a billionfold. We don't need to make up stories anymore to understand ourselves and our world but for some reason people look at these stories conceived by people dead several thousand years and still believe them to be true with no credible evidence as to why it is true.

Why can't we believe in god and science at the same time? Why must they be mutually exclusive? Why can't the science of today be the system setup by god so many years ago to explain why the world works the way it does? Couldn't he have set such systems as a way to lessen his workload considerably? Wouldn't that allow him to cater to our individual needs a little better? He's freakin god, sure he may be all powerful but he has so much on his plate that he could take every break in workload he can get. Couldn't evolution merely be a tool he scripted in the god-equivalent of C++?

One that is based on "everything goes in faith" (we'd have a pantheon of everything imaginable and unimaginable), on leaving everybody the fuck alone with their personal choice of gods and not interfering with politics, science or other people's personal lives.

You're really taking me correcting you personally, aren't you?
In the interest of actually answering your probably sarcastic question: It's what came to mind.
No Wikipedia, no effort.

All the followers would be sexy females, and what would I get my followers to do? I think you know...
You do realize that very religion lead to the Jamestown Tragedy? XD

Also.. my religion would worship the god of IceCream, we would celebrate our religion by pooling our money every week and gorging on icecream. We would see the brainfreeze as a touch of the god of frost on a worthy follower, and a heart attack as his way of promoting the worthy follower to be an officer in his army of creamyness. And we would also teach that we actually live in a computer generated world run by machines that use our body heat as an energy source.
