Now, I don't mean your username. That's for another thread entirely. What I mean is your real name, the name on your driver's licence, birth certificate, passport. The name given to you the day you were brought into this world. I ask because seeing as how this is a place populated by people of diverse ethnicities, hailing from every part of the world, the history behind our names would be as unique as us. Our names, our lineage, can all be traced back to a single point a long time ago. Doesn't matter if your name is very common where you live. It still has it's own meaning and history.

My name is Karyl. Now my name itself has no meaning that I know of. But the name it was derived from does. My name comes from the Arabic boy's name Kareem, whose meaning is "Gracious, Generous".

So Escapists, what's the meaning behind your name?
karyl coming from kareem? Not to seem rude but I doubt that, a friend of mine named Karyl told me a name origin story about the name karyl, had nothing to do with coming from the Arabic language.

OT: I am Pakistani/Indian; but as a born and raised Muslim I have an Arabic name: Ammar, depending on how it's spelled (with which Arabic letter you use) it means either builder or creator; that or it means someone very pious/faithful, close to God (now if only that were true for me, it is for my dad though)
That's what my parents always told me. But who knows...they could be wrong.

My first name, Allicia is purposely misspelled, but it means "Noble" in german, and "Truth" in Greek. My nickname, Allie, means both of those, as well as "healer" in greek. My last name means "Noble man; mighty as a bear" in old english/german. My middle name means "the star of the sea" in Hebrew.

Philippa - Lover of Horses. Which is quite apt, considering I study equine science.
I'm usually known as Pippa though, which is Greek slang for blowjob =/

My first name means "supplanter" or "substitute". My second name means "Ruler of the people" or "King".

So, essentially, auxiliary king.

Awesome. ^_^

Apparently, it's derived from a name that means "God is Gracious" or "Merciful". But it has numerous meanings, depending on the context. It's versatility is one of the reasons why I picked it.

First name is derived from Jasper which is a semiprecious gemstone harder then glass.
OR
Or it's derived from the Persian Jasper which means treasure holder.
OR
In the book of Revelation it refers to a diamond, so let's go with that.
Second name is either from one of the apostles or from Arabic in which it means twins.
Last name means: From the Common (as in the piece of grass in the middle of town usually in front of a church).

Joel Lars Magne Ljungberg. (yea, guess where my username comes from?)

Joel (Jehovah is God) makes no sense to me, since it has a religious meaning, and my parents aren't religious.

Lars (from Larentius, means "he who is crowned with laurel") makes sense though, it's my dad's first name, and he has his dad's first name as a second name, and he his, and so on for some generations.

Magne doesn't make any sense at all, never heard anyone else being called that, but it's awesome anyway, since it means "the strong" or "the powerful" and is the name of a Norse god.

Ljungberg is a fairly common Swedish surname, guess it's ok.. would much rather have that of my dad's relatives though "berggren" just because it's cooler =p
