I just can't stand Call of duty's multiplayer, i loved the first two and i thought that both Modern warfares were decent and that Black Op's campaign was really good, although now i just can't stand the thought that millions of people are only going to judge future call of duty's by how easy it is to no scope people and what different colours they can make their guns.
Plus the gaming community of CoD is the worst ive ever seen.

I mean yes, if they did good stories then I'd be interested still, but all they've ever produced have had either non-existent, incoherent or dull stories.
Well, I disagree.
I thought Black Ops' story was great. Not just for the action, which was amazing enough for me to ignore the fact that if there were no story, but the whole numbers and shit was really well done, and thoroughly enjoyable in my opinion.
I loved the characters too. I cared more for them than I did for Soap, Price or Gaz, if I'm honest.
I respect your opinion though, don't get me wrong, I can clearly see why you would consider the stories dull, incoherant or non-existant.
I just happen to think otherwise. (Or, for Black Ops' at least. MW2 fucked itself by having a great story, but not telling it. I get it, but only after having read into it and theorised thoroughly. I shouldn't have to..
And WaW and CoD4 had no real stories, just epic war missions.)

Honestly, if Black Ops had no Multiplayer bar Zombies, I would still rate it very highly.

Call of Duty used to be very strong at both parts of gameplay. Letting you play the battles of WWII and some made up battles in modern times. I really didn't like Black-ops at all. Very weak story. I beat in a single sitting, on the same day i bought it(without needing to pull an all-nighter). The single player was just garbage. Most of the weapons were not even prototypes back then in the 1960's. If MW2 was hard to call realistic, then black ops is like a comic book about super hero's and nerve gas.

If it was only Multiplayer then I don't think Activision could justify charging over the going rate for it. Also I would have never bought a CoD game if there was no campaign.

Watch the ZP of COD4. It is a good SP. Not just a "Good for an FPS", but actually good.
Black ops was awwful though. One twist, and it wasn't that good, despite the fact that the whole game leads up to it
MW2 looks good compared to Blops

I'm not saying your wrong, but how did you find that? Woods was ok, and Hudson could have been worse, but Resnov kept going on about these three guys, Weaver barely evolved after being stabbed in the eye, and Bowman was "The black guy"

Since when does short = bad?
It doesn't, but when something is good we usually want it to last longer.

Of course, there is the argument that the short length is what keeps the COD campaigns from becoming boring, but long games can keep you hooked too.

Half Life 2 is around 25-30 hours including the 2 episodes and it didn't bore me once in its entire duration (ok, maybe the Water Hazard level did a little bit.... but you get my point)

I've always enjoyed CoDs campaigns, I mean Treyarchs aren't great, but they still have some memorable moments. And I personally don't like to go near the multiplayer until I've completed the single player, I think in most console games the campaign should be completed before the multiplayer is started.

Because not all people agree with you, and enjoy playing the single player.
I've found all of the Call of Duty single player portions to be good, personally.
I like them too but they are too short and feel more like a addon to the MP I just wonder why tehy still bother making it
Because people like them, and don't always have an internet connection.
Kind of hard to sell a multiplayer only game to people who have choppy/no internet.
I get that but I finished the BLOPS SP in a day that doesnt justify the 60$ price tag I get it that some popel take longer but its very short
There is such a thing as renting...

I like to have weekend where my friends and I play through a bunch of CoD games chronologically. Modern Warfare and Black Ops included.

They almost become like an interactive action-movie-series.

Just because it's COD does not mean it should be excused from having a good storyline of decent length. COD 4 led the player through an engaging experience much longer than that of MW2 with characters that were truly likable.
You're missing my point - CoD has never had a good story (I mean, we're talking about actually good quality writing and stories here, not a series of set-pieces and men with mustaches) so why go to the series for that?

If it did then I'd play it, but it never has so I won't. I'm not excusing it, I'm saying it's always been useless in that department and probably always will be so you may as well play it for what they obviously pay the most attention to.

Modern Warfare is about 6 hours, and again the plot is dull, and the characters 2-dimensional. Yes, good set-pieces and engaging during-the-fact, but plot-wise, not at all. If Modern Warfare is the standard by which we measure good writing in games then we may as well not bother.

And now with Black Ops friendly AI, the interactivity is optional!

Because SP campaigns give what you do in the game a purpose. MP imo has no purpose other than get the most kills. Defend this. That's it. It's good to have some kind of a back story to things sometimes instead of just another Deathmatch game.

I believe if you watch the Extra Credits from 6th January you will find reference to why Movie based games don't do well, because of the lack of time in development.

They stated that they normally get a year in comparison to the normal time spread of 2-5 years to release with the movie I think this is like the situation CoD is currently in.

Activision clearly aware that their multiplayer is what makes them the most money with CoD especially with downloaded map packs would like their developers to concerntrate on making the Multiplayer good before fleshing out the campaign mode and because there is a CoD game due to be released every year this gives the development team a very short amount of time to work on both Multiplayer and Singleplayer.

So in order to make the most amount of money in the time available to them they flesh out and try to balance the multiplayer with the most of their time only allowing them a very short time frame to put together the singleplayer levels I'd estimate around 3-4 months possibly making them rather short, so if Activision were to raise the deadline to a CoD game every 2 years or more you might see a much better game at the end of it with a much longer Single player.

sorry if it's a bit long but I have been thinking about this a lot. *blush* my two cents, not fact. ^^

It's a way of getting the feel for the game without throwing yourself to the wolves. It's annoying trying to learn the quirks of a game while having your ass handed to you by people that have been playing for years. See, Day of Defeat for what I mean.

OP: Grammar, my good sir, is not your strong suit.

I think that the COD single player depends on the game. Modern Warfare? Fantastic story. Black Ops? Really good characters, as well as the first example of solid writing in the games. Big Red One? Blew me away when I first played it.

However, anyone who played COD 3 and Modern Warfare 2 can tell you that those games rely more on their setpieces rather than their characters. The COD series has lately been about globetrotting badassery, and I'm alright with that. Hell, just look at Black Ops: it goes from Vietnam to Kowloon back to Vietnam and then to the Ural Mountains seamlessly. However, Modern Warfare 2 relied on these things too much, and not enough on the characters (Frank Woods FTW).

Because there are people like me who play the story and enjoy it. Have you ever looked around you in the midst of the combat and seen the little things?

This mainly applies to the flashbacks in Black Ops and WaW, but have you noticed the prisoners that you find every so often? This, out of every moral choice created, is my favourite. It has little to no effect on the outcome of the story so you have no reason to change it on your next playthrough to see what it does. All it requires you to do is think.

Do you shoot them, or leave them? It's almost a reflex, in the rush of the battle you can't tell the difference between those shooting and those surrendering, maybe you accidentally shoot those cowering in fear; you feel remorse. It's a beautiful choice that shows a lot about you as a person. I love Treyarch for this.

The stories are also pretty decent, most people just see them as shoot this, kill that, but they're actually pretty good. I couldn't put Black Ops down when I started to know more about the numbers. Modern Warfare 2 wasn't as good but it still had a good story. I wanted to know if they got Makarov, whether the Americans and Russians made friends again and I was genuinely devastated when Ghost and I were killed by Shepard. I wanted to murder him for killing ghost.

See, it's the little things that make them great. They may not be the next best story but they have their moments that drag you in and whisper things to you. They do bring a great deal of immersion to the table, in between deaths of course.
