What series are your "must buy's" if any?

I've really culled my gaming tastes to manageable levels in the last couple years of so, and that coupled with the fact that a lot of my remaining favorites (Souls, MGS, The Witcher) are on indefinite hiatus leave me with very few of these "must buy's".

One that immediately comes to mind though would be Mortal Kombat. As long as microtransactions don't ruin it (dangerously close with X but perhaps they learned something with Injustice 2) this one has always provided loads of entertainment value. I'm not even big into online play and for a game to still hold my interest for 2+ years and counting is pretty good.

The God of War series has historically been one as well, but I'm waiting to see how this new direction pans out.

So, what ones are you willing to part with your dear dollars for, especially day one?

Elder Scrolls, Dynasty Warriors, main series Pokemon, Call of Duty -will- be bought by me guarenteed, sooner than later.

Oh, Mortal Kombat too, since you bring it up. Especially since its a series with a fantastic plot AND great gameplay now too.

Splinter Cell, Grand Theft Auto and Halo for me (although Halo5 was a dumpster fire, and if the story continues in the current vein, I might be hopping off that bandwagon.)

Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, anything by CD Projekt Red. Got the new MK because it's interesting to see VG characters that actually age. Who'd have thought, a gray Liu Kang! It's so odd. 2 generations ago this list would stretch for miles. But now? Not so much.

I've played every God of War and Silent Hill to date, so those. The Arkham games. The Team ICO games, if you consider those a series. Anything by Shinji Mikami as well.

I think Heroes of Might & Magic was the last one to fall on my instant buy list of series.

Ultima was probably the longest running one, although on a time-scale, I got 1-6 in a big pack, so there were only 4 games to buy after that (5 if you count Online).

Command and Conquer and Zelda had some decent runs with me too. C&C went bonkers with 4 (which was the 8th or 9th game if you counted Red Alerts and Generals IIRC). Gamecube was where I hopped over to Playstation for a controller I didn't hate.

Not so much a singular unified series, but the SNES-era Square RPGs I had prettymuch the wholeset. Then Square lost the plot with me with FF7.

Zelda. And I think that's the only one. Most of the games I'm interested in I put them into the "wait 'till reviews and patches" category (Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, anything from Bethesda).

I'm in the same boat as you. Here are my favorite series' from the past 20 years. But Bioware is now a dead company to me, with the massive open world/fetch quest direction that they have taken. And the rest have no sequels planned any time soon, although a remaster of the original Starcraft is coming out in 2 weeks (Aug. 14), and a remastered Warcraft III is in development. I will be playing both remasters. I will also be keeping an eye out for FromSoftware/Miyazaki's next IP.

Warcraft (RTS)
Starcraft
Mass Effect
Dragon Age
Dark Souls

Assuming I have all the required systems, Halo, the Tales of series, and Ace Combat.

I want to also say Metal Gear Solid, but without Kojima and with the current state of Konami, any future installments will have to prove themselves first before I even consider buying them.

Unfortunately, I have no Xbox one, but hopefully Microsoft will consider putting future Halo FPS titles on the PC.

Literally? None. I'm not going to automatically buy a game just because it's part of a series. However, I can nominate the following:

-Advance Wars (in that I own all four games and want a fifth one)
-Command and Conquer (formerly - lost this status after Tiberian Twilight)
-Diablo (in that I own all three main games and expansions)
-Gears of War (in that I own all installments of the series)
-Golden Sun (in that I own all three games and want a fourth one)
-Halo (kind of still has this status, but haven't played Halo Wars 2 or the Spartan Assault/Strike games, and haven't bothered with remakes)
-Resident Evil (formerly, lost this status after RE5)
-Sonic the Hedgehog (formerly, lost this status after Sonic Unleashed)
-Soul Calibur (formerly, lost this status after SC4)
-StarCraft (own all the main games, but haven't got Insurrection/Retribution, and doubt I'll get Remastered)
-Star Fox (formerly - collected them since Star Fox 64, but haven't played Zero; Command basically killed the series for me)
-Warcraft (RTS games only)

Like I said, none of these are literal "must buys," but they are (or were) as close as I've got to that status. There's some series that came close (Zelda, Metal Gear, etc.), but often times I've had to lag behind a series due to hardware requirements (e.g. never got Guns of the Patriots as I chose the Xbox 360 over the PS3 at the time)

Not a series exactly, but I'm very much on board with Supergiant Games at this point. (For those unfamiliar, they made Bastion, Transistor and most recently Pyre.)

Rather fond of Naughty Dog despite only being lukewarm on Uncharted. If their next game/series is something closer to The Last of Us then I shall be very happy indeed.

Nothing I'd consider an automatic "must buy" though. Seems like weird thing to do.

Mankind Divided prices sure got slashed quickly..... sigh.

Final Fantasy Tactics, Ogre Battle, and SAGA.

So, you know, f**k me.

Monster Hunter and Metroid, too, long as they're on something I can plug into a TV.

None.

I'll never buy something simply for being part of a particular series I like. I'll observe it and see whether it's any good, but I'm not going to buy it regardless of what I'm seeing is actually any good.

I'll always take a gander though at whatever Naughty Dog is doing.

Shin Megami Tensei and all of its 500 spinoffs, Mega Man and Ace Attorney. Maybe remakes of older games like that Metroid 2 one.

Series? Must Buy?

I can't think of any. I only consider individual titles as must buy, and very few of those at that. Maybe the Portal Games (does two count as a series?)

Zero Escape for sure, but the series has ended, same with Dark Souls sooo...

-Main series Pok?mon, but I skipped X/Y
-Main series Ace Attorney, but I skipped Apollo Justice

There's a few other series but they only have two instalments so I don't know if they're worth mentioning.

Well, atleast your favourites are kind to your wallet?

By the way, if you're interested in a low-budget Tactics Ogre, the Mercenaries Saga games (available for 3DS and Android) are something worth looking at. They're a shorter and less complex (because they're 15 hour games you buy for like 5 bucks), but they're competent little games in their own right.

Anyway, I usually end up buying the newest Tales of and Atelier games pretty early. They're like comfort food and I need comfort food sometimes. Not counting the newest Atelier, I purchased every new installment that was released somewhere in the past 8 years on day one. Okay, to be honest I also got several as review copies for review purposes, but in any case, I played them right around launch.
