What should an epic FPS include?

Also it's better if it not a generic space marine character, if you character is normal, and not single-handedly blowing up the entire battlefield. Rather have the choice of smaller missions that effect the overall outcome of the game rather than a linear go blow up their boss path.

How about something different than the same seven weapon categories every other game in the genre has?
It's been said again and again: originality is dead. To me, having an unusual gun is a selling point for a game. It worked with Half-Life 2 with the gravity gun, Painkiller with the... Painkiller, and the recent COD map pack has the Wunderwaffe DG-2. More than seeing an FPS with good ideas, I like seeing one that does something original with my arsenal.

They serve the same function, for the most part, though: Spray and pray.
In games.
Pfft! Any gamer worth his salt would know, if they plan to spray and pray, to use a smg. With higher caliber weapons you gain more bang for your buck, but at the expense of firing rate. Most games now don't even give the option to change the firing mode, so sometimes you are stuck on semi-automatic or three round burst on a gun that can go balls-out-Rambo style.

At least one very large firefight. Minimum standard: the scene in Halo 2 where you come into the room where the Arbiter's armor was, and there's a firefight between Brutes and Elites. A song kicks up, you have two handfuls of weapon, and lots of targets.

That leads me to the second point: good music. I've always enjoyed the music both from Half-Life and from Halo: I keep some of both soundtracks in my library. (I also have the theme from Duke Nukem.)

A nice well told story, a well balanced and well paced action gameplay, vibrant colourful visuals, a devoted publisher with commitment to the fanbase, good weapons, cool alien races that are shown to have human personality (only if it DOES have aliens), some exploration and atmosphere amazing epic music, fun multiplayer and that wierd X factor of charm that is hard to describe that stems from happy memories of the past or even just an established familiarity or even just spme unknown source of charm.
Also preferrably NOT set in the modern world, the distant future or an underwater city or a distant planet or city infested with monsters much more prefferable.

Also OP, welcome to the escapist... though I have issues with your choice of username.

A crowbar !

oh and a good story is also important for me .
I love how you prioritise a crowbar over a good story :)

It depends what kind of fps it is. At the moment i want Serious Sam 3, so i'm looking for huge, stupid guns.

A good story, of course. And something original.

And if you have women--don't put them in slut armor. That's stupid.
