A new perspective. Or well not new, but different to "Tommy Testosterone Tits" (ho yes, ZP has invaded my vocab). Perhaps a cop who is thrown into a civil war and must search for his family... searching coming before the killing.

(It has been said above, but...) Interesting weapons. Perhaps a gun that is used to fire restraints which hold enemies in place when fired at their limbs, (imagine little horseshoe shaped things with pointy ends which can hold people to walls, floors etc) but when fired at the stomach kill them.

Cool hit detection, shoot them in the legs to slow them down! Shoot them in the arms to disarm them! Shoot them in the neck if you're a bastard.

The option of NOT killing your enemies but incapacitating them.

um... EMP grenaides!

A crowbar (as for mentioned) AND a bulky coat that makes us look bigger than we really are!

It would require the blessing of the Emperor.

Ultrajoe posted something to this effect, I'll try and fish it up.

Really, really, really, really big multiplayer battles, destructable environments, massive explosions, vehicles and of course...chuck norris. You knew it was coming.

To me, Fallout 3 was near perfect. So near perfect in fact, I can't even remember any flaws. If possible, the only thing that made me unhappy, is finding pretty much all the locations on the map. But then they have DLC! Fallout had the option to do whatever you like, and choose either guns or melee. Scraight amazing game. I know Oblivion and all those are basically the same but in a different time, but Fallout's environment was basically perfect. Music from the 40's (I assume?) and the theme from the 40's/50/s as well. Post-apocalyptic gameplay, stuff like that. That's my favorite environment anyway.
I should go play Bioshock, I remember playing the demo and it was very similar as well.

Time to target and ballistic trajectory for the firearms.
A locational hit model and an approipriate damage model.
Realistic weapons penetration (COD 4 isnt realistic and is total bollocks, see exploded car versus unexploded car for details) & realistic ranges of engagement.
A rigidly enforced pants shitting system for the kiddies that want to sprint through MG fire.

Thatll do.
And this.

I think the most epic FPS would be one where they include all manners of gaming clichés in a convincing way.

Hence, I propose a galaxy-spanning Space Opera about Space Pirates and their battle against the univere's police: The Space Marines. You are, however, forced to join together along with every human in the galaxy as you face off against the invading Martian threat, who seek to destroy Earth's empire with their advanced weponary, such as raising the human dead against their living comrades. Also included: Love Intrest, Chase Scenes ála Mirror's Edge or Burnout Paradise, epic COD4-Esque sniper mission with Ninja infiltration game.

A really satisfying good melee weapon, not like a crowbar, but like the sledgehammer in red faction and (campain only) a super mega weapon that you can use and a bit of comedy

For me, I would kill for a realistic War game.

A large open battlefield with trenches, tanks, and snipers. (Not these "short range snipers" I mean the ones who take you out from several hundred meters away)

Im not talking 20 odd people on the map. I'm talking a fall scale war, with hundreds of players on each team. I don't know how many people would enjoy this, but to me, it would be FPS Heaven.

MAG is a good start for online, add fully destructible enviroments and good weapons (And chuck norris) and you've got a good start towards a great FPS

For an epic FPS? Big fight scenes with friendly NPCs. Kind of like Call Of Duty 5, storming the Reichstag.

For FPS in general? I dunno. Ranged weapons?

There are so many different subtypes of FPS, it's hard to say one particular thing is important. Tactical shooters rely on stealth and cunning while Serious Sam and the like rely on hordes of enemies. Both work! But they're different kinds of FPS.

MAG Supports 256 players, not sure about the other things you mentioned though

A crowbar !

oh and a good story is also important for me .
I love how you prioritise a crowbar over a good story :)

It depends what kind of fps it is. At the moment i want Serious Sam 3, so i'm looking for huge, stupid guns.
to clarify : the crowbar was more of a joke :p
