Well, what kind of games do you want to play? If you're interested in First Person Shooters or Real Time Strategy games, there's no setup for a mouse and keyboard setup. If you're all about platforming games - most of those only come out on consoles, but if you're prepared to shell out for a gamepad, the ones that are available more than playable on the PC.

On the plus side: there's a lot of software available for the PC, for cheap, and it can do pretty much anything, and if you have the hardware to support it you can really crank up the settings.

On the negative side: the Xbox is going to get more new releases, PC ports of console games tend to be buggy and get less attention, and it can be more costly to build a good gaming rig.

Definitely check out Steam and Good Old Games if you're going the PC route.
I am interested in games like Battlefield and games for Steam that run on the Source engine (TF2, DoD:S, CS:S, etc. etc.) First person military shooters also are a definite plus. NOT, and let me repeat, NOT FUCKING WOW!!!!!

Go the self built PC route! I just recently finished my own build and I don't regret it one bit, It's much simpler then you think, Mine cost around 1600$s but I built mine for high end gaming (Crysis etc etc) But if you want to play source games you can EASILY build one for around 500-800$s that will run it great.

Building your own PC is a bit overwhelming at first, it's a lot of research I spent about 3 months researching and making sure my parts were compatible etc etc (granted these were the 3 months I was working to get the money) but in the end it is SO,SO satisfying, Also you'll learn a lot from it too!

Building your own PC can save you upwards for 400$s+ then buying pre-built and I'm a mouse and keyboard man myself

P.S You don't have to go to college for building it, I'm only 14, I'm sure you can do it to if you just do your re-search.
I bet your a lot more smart than I am when it comes to this stuff as well, and probably not as lazy.

My question is, should I save up and replace my xbox360 console and buy some new games when they come out (note that I am now a hardcore console gamer, have been since December of 2006) OR should I save up to get a new computer that can support games such as Battlefield and Counter-Strike (Source, not 1.6, my CPU right now can support that.)
Considering that you're a self-described 'hardcore console gamer', you'd probably be most at home with a simplified interface, no installation times, less glitches, and a controller in your hand. Also, most developers will release new games on the consoles first, so you'll probably have a greater pick of games to choose from. And, as I've said, it'll be as much hassle as breathing, given that all you have to do with a console is turn it on and play.

PC, on the other hand, is much more powerful in terms of performance; if you buy a good PC, you could be looking at up to ten times more detail on a game such as Fallout 3. However, the primary reason here is due to modding. Many PC games have an active modding community which are a far more responsive and quick patching and update source for the game, giving it a vast edge over the console version; right now, my Fallout 3 is modded with about 60 mods, all tweaking with the game to make it more enjoyable to me. Now, on to the next section: price.

Now, if you choose the PC option, note that I am a fucking, I repeat, fucking nooblet when it comes to choosing gaming PC's that are relatively cheap and still work. What kind should I get?
Well, the most hardcore ones, like Alienware, are ridiculously powerful and cost up in the $3000-4000 range. However, they're as overpriced as they are powerful; I built my PC from the ground up for $1500 less than the equivalent Alienware rig (granted, I spared the gratuitous amounts of storage and the liquid cooling). Also, Dell has some passable gaming PCs in the $500 range, though with PCs, in general, the more money you spend, the greater the reward (and longevity) of your machine. Since you say you're a nooblet in this field, I guess I shouldn't suggest building your own PC, as this requires some knowledge of how they work...

Also, if I choose one or the other, should I sell my old one in order to get some of the money back? Or should I save it and use it as a back-up.
Depends on how much you thirst for cash. If you're willing to splurge a bit more on extra hardware, I'd say sell it. However, I'd say wait a bit if you choose the PC option; since you're a console native, maybe you won't exactly take to the desktop well.

You owe me money.

You just answered your own question, All those games are *practically* a PC exclusive, TF2 has a dwindling X-360 fan base whilst the PC version is great! Also things like CS are PC only. If you really like FPS go the PC route, mouse and keyboard is just so much better for controll (IMHO)

I knew nearly nothing about PCs before I went to a LAN party and got inspired, just look up some how to videos you'll be surprised.

So you're saying you want to play WoW. Okay.

Seriously dude, I didn't say anything MMO related. I have no idea why you're shouting at me about your burning hatred for World of Warcraft.

Though it is an option exclusive to the PC crowd.

Chevelle it's easier than you think. Building a PC was like solving one of those jigsaw puzzles with the massive pieces that they give to babies.

Just had to get my point across that I won't touch World of Warcraft unless I am drugged, uncouncious, or the result of touching is sex with 4 beautiful girls.

Not shouting at you :D

I suggested you buy an Xbox 360, because.... With a PC you will constantly need to update it with new Graphics card and Ram and ect. (believe me I just recently did so after 2 years Bought pc for 400 now I just spent about 300 to upgrade it again) So in the long run your gonna have to save up close to 600-1200 dollars for a DECENT gaming computer (you are using it for gaming right?) while as with an Xbox it just the 290 up front but you also have to buy games which are RIDICULOUSLY OVER PRICED at 60$ but I mean just get one you'd be good with untill next paycheck or whatever. But on the other hard you don't really have to pay for PC game's just Torrent them or what ever but It's your call. I personally I like PC gaming better but I also own an Xbox and I play it more than my PC I just really like Warhammer: online haha.

PC. Go for it.
1. Its versatile.
2. Better Controls.
3. Never have to the whole thing for the next gen. Just buy a better part then your up to date.
4. NO MACS PLZ.
5. WTF am I doing here?
This, and PCs have a bunch of good cheap games. ( Half-life, Monky Island, Starcraft to name a few.)

I would say PC, as I love my gamming rig and have only played a couple of 360 games in the last few months. In fact I have logged more playing time on the Wii then the 360.

The down side is cost. A decent gaming rig is going to run you around $900, with a nice unit more like $1500, and it would be easy to (as I did) dump more then $2000 into your gaming rig.

So if cost is an issue, which it sounds like it would be practical to get the 360.
That sounds like someone who really needs to know what they're doing.

Now PCs can get sort of complicated, especially when it comes to cost vs performance, and if you know much about them. You see, if you DON'T get a custom-build, you will run a high price tag. I saw someone who dumped 2.4 grand on a computer that's BARELY better than mine (video card was a GTX 260 instead of my 9800 GTX+, and had 8gb of 1066 memory instead of my 4gb 1066)

Really I suggest you get an xbox and save the rest for something else you really want. I have a good gaming computer that I built for just under $1100 from newegg, and really if it weren't my main platform for video editing, I would have been completely fine with a 360 and my old computer and just saving for a car.

Put one together yourself, for around 750$ you can have a pc that crushes most games, and can run crysis on high. (Not counting windows xp, which can be bought on the cheap)

Well, if I got a good enough graphics card I wouldn't need to constantly upgrade it that much would I? I mean I know that computers are constantly getting better and better, but I mean if I got a good computer, or built my own, that would mean I would be good to go for about 5-10 years right? I mean I've had this computer since....jeez....6th or 7th grade and I am now im 11th grade. (note that it was a basic dell computer, and still is)

Um, okay?

This is just begging the question: Why not? I haven't played a MMOPERGER since dabbling with the likes of Silk Road Online, and I'm not a huge fan of the genre - but why the venomous aversion? Did your parents die while on a raid, or something? What's the deal?

Because 2 of my best friends started playing it. Needless to say, they haven't seen sunlight in 2 years.

I like my soul, and I personally like having a life (occasionally), and I'm not saying that all WoW players have no lives, just most. And because I don't like those types of games.

Depends on if you're willing to settle for the Best Buy special, if you're going to build a PC yourself for $14 on Newegg, or if you're willing to overpay Alienware for something covered in blue LEDs and decapitated aliens.

If you have enough technical knowledge, buy all the parts from NewEgg and build it yourself. It's fun, it saves you money, and you get exactly what you want.
