Going to Japan in March, and I'll be there for a while. So I was wondering, what should I do when I get there? Akihabara sounds interesting for a techy/gaming geek,(though I may want to avoid the streets if this is common:

Do they have any cherry blossom festivals going on when you'll be there? That and maybe one of those street festivals might be nice; I always wanted to see those. I'd like to see a temple or two also. And Tokyo Tower. Sorry, I'm not sure. I had a japanese grandpa and relatives that live in Japan, but I'm pretty pathetic with my Japan geography and what not.

Find a big robot and terrorize other giant robots. Avoid tentacles at all costs.

What would i do if I was in Japan? Japanese girls.

... okay, let me be serious for a moment. I'm a photographer by trade, so I'm end up going stir-crazy from all of the photo opportunities that I'd have while I was there. Between the landscapes, the architecture, and the people there just wouldn't be a shortage of subjects for good pictures.

Then there's Tokyo. If all the various centers of geekdom in that city aren't enough to keep you happy there's all of the stores with weird and outlandish stuff that only the Japanese can some up with.

Asking me what I would do in Japan is like asking a small child what one kind of candy he wants in a candy paradise. I honestly don't have a suggestion, except to find Gatchapon tower.

DON'T play video games.

i asked my friend a while back if he could go to any country in the world, where would he go and why?

he said "Japan. they have video games there"
to which i looked at him blankly and said, "... you mean... You would fly across the world for hours on end, only to get there... and play video games, something you could do in your own house?? Is your brain located in your asshole??"

i dont get why someone would go to Japan for games.

i would say, go there and try to get in touch with ancient Japanese culture. not Japan's modern, technology-based, schoolgirl panty-vending culture

Save up, then go to Akihabara (Akiba, for short). Once there, stockpile on electronics, videogames, anime and manga. They're dirt cheap in their homeland. Then sell them all on e-Bay. Go back to Japan with your earnings, repeat.

That, or sushi. I love me some sushi right now.

Climb to the top of the highest mountain you can see at sunrise, and watch in awe as giant seisure inducing robots do battle with even bigger nuclear waste saturated monsters in the skies overhead.
And take pictures.

I'd suggest the Zen gardens. There are particularly fine ones in Kyoto. Also, go to the Hiroshima Peace Park and museum.

And definitely Akihabara. Don't forget to take a camera to make Vanguard jealous too.
