Okay, to cut a long story short...

I have lived in my house my whole life... And about eight years ago, a family (mum and two daughters) moved in next door. The mother has had past history of mental illness and violent behaviour. Quite often (a few times a week), the mother and the eldest daughter who is about 13-14 now have extremely violent arguments... I'm talking SCREAMING and swearing like I've never heard it before.... They throw stuff at each other and I'm pretty sure they get physically violent.

Over the years they've lived here, they have had the police called on them multiple times but nothing has happened... They quiet down and then are at it again later. I can't stress just how bad this is. I can hear them screaming at each other through my thick wall even with music on. It's getting fucking ridiculous now.

My mum used to be in the police and my dad still is, they tell me about how they had to deal with scum like this on a regular basis and how unfair it is that a good family (I hope) like ourselves, have to live next door to this and have to put up with all this shit on a regular basis.

The thing is, as the eldest daughter gets older, it's only going to get worse. I feel bad for the children because they have been brought up with this complete ***** of a mum their whole lives, but enough is enough.. They don't own their house, they're on benefits, they basically sponge of the government and hard working people like ourselves.

To all from the UK, picture the most violent chav you can, then picture yourself living next to them and having to hear all the domestic violence that goes on.

We live in a lovely area. There's an old people's home across the road and those who live there, don't need to put up with this shit all the time and neither do we.

Everyone in this area wants them to leave but so far, the police have done nothing about it. We will write to the council soon and file a complaint but I doubt it's gonna lead anywhere.

My question for all of you is, what should we do? Have you got bad neighbours?

Thanks for reading all this, I'm just venting here but it's seriously pissing me off. They've shut up now, which either means they've made up, or killed each other.

hmm... there is no simple answer to this...
First of all you should call child-protective services and have the children taken away.
There is no reason why the children should have to live with such a nutcase!

Well i cant give you advice on the problem you are having with your neighbours. Honestly until about two months ago I've never had any neighbours. On one side of our property we had crown land and on the other we had family owned farm land. Then two months ago we sold that land and a rather large family moved in (7 kids! HOLY CRAP!), and they are lovely so i've been really lucky where neighbours are concerned.

Break into their house and leave several knives laying around. Next time they fight, they'll throw the knives at each other and hopefully someone will die.

I have no clue how you put up with that for 8 years already. After a couple months of the police not sorting anything out I'd probably go crazy and murder the lot of them.

Thankfully I've never had annoying neighbours.

Somehow I think he was looking for serious help, not that. Have you tried talking to them about it. Sound suicidal, but can't see a better option. GL&hf^^possible ggxD

I second this. The first step should be to get the children out of the house, as moving them only solves the problem for you...but the two daughters still have to live in that hell hole.

After the children are taken away, then you petition to have the neighbor removed citing violations in living codes. I don't know UK property/communal laws, so check your guidelines online.

If the law can't help you then who can? I'm really sorry I can't help, I don't know a huge amount about the law but I'll try.

I think what you can do is take a look at the U.K. government website and research the law surrounding this kind of situation. Mostly this is a domestic disturbance case, however you can probably get them for an ASBO by now which, I think, can lead to imprisonment if they do not comply with the terms of the order issued to them (in this case, public nuisance maybe?).

I'd not advise taking things into your own hands like a few people have here, not just because it's illegal but also because these kinds of people have a very loose grip on reality and only really think of themselves. Nothing you try will affect them, they have no respect for the law or other people or their property.

I suppose the government website would give you a better idea than I can. If nothing else then maybe some kind of legal action on your part would be in order and you could consider taking them to court and maybe even sue them for... something. Ask the lawyer, they always figure out some way of squeezing money out of people. Otherwise, I'm clueless, I wish I could be more help but, as I said, I'm not completely au fait with the law, but this is definitely an infringement on your human rights.

That's the best I can do, sorry.

Maybe record/film their arguments/fights and show the police? Best advice I can give. If it was me I would probably go insane (not literally) and do something violent (not murder)

Hey, thanks mate. I'm glad some people are taking me seriously. I appreciate the advice but I don't think it will achieve much.

Unfortuanantly there are only three options:

1. Get child services involved
2. Move
3. Put up with it.

Outside of that there is, sadly, nothing you can do.

The house to the right of us is a flat, and the last owners who were there trashed the place and left, they also regularly played very loud music.

The neighbours to the left of us shout and argue all the time, it's so annoying.

And the neighbour across the street from us is a convicted paedophile and is on the sex offenders list.

But apart from that it's a great street I live on...

I'm guessing you live in a nice part of town, and they're relaying on the government to pay for the house. How the hell did they get put in a nice area? They should be stuck in council estates or flats that stink of piss and death.
I also don't know how the children haven't been taken away, if she has a mental problem she could be a risk to children.
I don't know how the police can ignore this. They're causing physical damage to each other, emotionally damaging the other children and disrupting you.
I've never been in this situation, but I'm sure you can file a complaint and get the government to move them somewhere else.

Scum is harsh, they are just human beings like everyone else.
Have you tried inviting the mother over, get to know here, maybe all she needs is someone to vent to.

And don't look down on those with benefits, making ends meet is hard and can cause the stress you have encountered

We actually had the same problem around here. This was a group of more passive and property destructive ruffians, though. I don't know if it's different because I'm in Canada, but basically we managed to get them evicted without much trouble.

The little shits (14-17) would light up their joints and drink when the police came around after being called by neighbours, and it is most definite that one of them stole my bike. As cruel as it is, I hope they rot, because then they'll be helping to fertilize the soil or something. This would be a major improvement on the current contributions they make to society.

Why haven't they done this years ago? If you're absolutely positive on this, you should call child-protective services!

Anyway, the children are probably already messed up now.. But at least you can keep them from being in this physical/mental violent environment.
