There should not be another Mass effect in the "numbered" series unless it follows the exploits of Commander Shepard.

But in terms of a AAA game in the universe? I don't know. Nothing after the ending makes sense, the universe is effectively ruined, and Nothing interesting happens before. Sure you have the First Contact war but that has not only already been delved into in other media, it is a frankly boring story and I don't want to shoot at Turians.

oh my god will people stop bashing the ending for mass effect 3, we get it, you didnt like it. But stop acting like everyone hated it! i loved the ending, im not runing around every post saying i love it so will people stop going on about the ending. I mean if ONE ending ruined an entire series for you, you wernt real fans in the first place.

As for mass effect 4, id love to see what it would be like with every race being stuck in the sol system as well...most of the sol systems planets have been mined to death and all the different alien races stuck in the same system would make for a brilliant plot device for the next games story. Itd obviously have to be a different style of gameplay from 1 2 and 3, still an rpg but not about huge battles more about survival and trying to find a way past the relays.

It starts by saying: "Sorry for the MAKO and the inventory system in ME1. We're also sorry for the dumb story and scanning in ME2 along with the bullshit ending in ME3. We've left some chocolate and a lesbian porno in the box." And then it ends.

Captcha: "I'm not dead yet", yes you are, Shepard.

but I don't like chocolate!

I'd like more of a Mass Effect Origins type game. Bioware said we're done with Shepard, so we should be.
This. Something like 20 years after ME3 (providing that the Mass Relays didnt' explode and BioWare change the ending... please BioWare?), where you play as another Spectre like Shepard, but you can be any race, have many different backgrounds. Also, this may sound a pansy-ish, but maybe something not soo... "epic." I mean I want what they give us to feel amazing just like the original Mass Effects, but the Reapers were, without a doubt, the biggest threat to ever exist. Making something like "The Reaper 2 dun-dun-dun" will just feel stale and weak. Make a "realistic" enemy, something threatening, but also not "over-the-top all worlds will bow to them" enemies. Make each game after that either a new enemy but with the same character each time or completely new stories un-related to each other aside from lore-relevant links, like The Elder Scrolls or Fable.

Bioware Victory is not Bioware and should not be treated as such by the fanbase. That's just EA marketing at work.

Personally, I think they should do a civilian focused game. Maybe make the game revolve around a colony in the Skillian Verge that prospers or suffers in response to your actions. Part of the game could be colony management combined with defense against Batarian raids, while another part would be travelling the Verge and Terminus systems and gathering resources(through narative gameplay, not minigames) and dealing with mercs and pirates. Basically, make the game about something other than The Fate of the Galaxy.

While the colony itself might start out as a human colony, part of the colony's growth would include how to deal with other races, including the possibility of integration within the colony. The player could be any race(within reason), starting out as possibly just a freelancer contracted by the colony, but growing in influence as the game progresses.

Additionally, this would be an interesting set up to include the possibility of full campaign co-op multiplayer. Bioware has proven they can make the concept work. Integrating it into the game proper is just the next logical step. Naturally, the ability to play single player with NPCs should remain intact.
Bioware Victory should get at least one chance to prove themselves worthy of being called "Bioware." But only one.

As for your idea, I think it is magnificent. I would gladly play that game.

I myself had something in the vein of Homeworld in mind, but your idea is at least on par, if not better than mine.

never released. or if released never purchased till EA and Bioware learn a very harsh lesson about dicking with the gaming community.
What's there to learn? The gaming community is one of the simultaneously most fickle, most fanboyish, and most easily enraged communities in existence short of some religious extremists. They release the product, and everyone buys it, and no amount of rage has changed that.

If anything, the gaming community needs some harsh lessons in coordination, level-headedness and anti-fanboyism. It's a complete wreck as is.
I agree that the gaming community can be easy to anger. Although in this case its clear there are issues on both sides.

Though this isnt the biggest middle finger to gamers. The biggest i still think is the cancellation of megaman legends 3 especially after the community gave alot of time and input to get the game created in majority the way fans wanted it to be.

But as long as big game companies like EA want to play business rather than community friends then as customers not fans we are in our total right to rage against what is essentially a product at fault to what was promised in design specifications.

The first and most important thing for the Mass Effect franchise will be when it's.... taken away from EA.

I'm giving BioWare the benefit of the doubt here, and will assume their bosses at EA ordered them to create a shitty game so that DLC could be sold to un-shitty it.

That being said, if another game does take place in the ME universe, I'd like to play some of the side stories that we're told about. Garrus's time on Omega in ME2, Anderson's guerrilla warfare in ME3. Miranda's story either before we met her in ME2, or her effort to track down her father in ME3. There's a ton of potential storylines floating around this universe they've created.

But really, the correct answer is: no. Just no.

I'd like a game where I can choose my species, race, powers, facial features, and free roam.

I don't want a Mass Effect 4. If they truly fix the ending I would want a detective buddy game set on the free roaming Citadel about 2 C-sec detectives. Imagine the possibilities.
I would love this!

An epic tale of love, betrayal, reach and flexibility.

That's not really Bioware though is it? More Bethseda

Honestly I would prefer a new IP, but if not I wouldn't be adverse to A) A strategy game either RTS or turn based. B) A RPG which plays as a weird mish mash of DA:O and ME1/ME2. Have DA origin's style pick one of four makor races i.e human, salarian, turian and asari and become a specter and then stop some evil, could be kool and the gang

There were all sorts of cool things they could have done with this universe but with the way ME3 ended, I'm really not sure how it'd work.

In every ending the mass relays are destroyed, so any game set after the end of ME3 would be restricted to a much smaller universe. Workable, but not as cool.

And while all the endings of ME3 were functionally the same for the player aside from the colour of the explosion, they all have radically different implications for the state of the universe going forward - it's going to be pretty difficult for them to write anything without establishing one of the three choices as the canon one since there will either be synthetics, no synthetics or everyone will be hybrids *shudder*.

I think it'd have to be a prequel thing, maybe set before humans arrived on the scene.

Don't you people read before posting?

It was a trilogy, there will be no 4.

That is all
I remember nothing of BioWare saying 3 would be the last Mass Effect, just that it would just be the last game with Shepard. BioWare even talked about making an MMO later. If I'm wrong feel free to provide an article or something that BioWare stated there would be no more Mass Effect after 3.

Back in the nineties I went into this little used bookstore in Alabama somewhere and ran across a book labeled "book four of the Vampire Diaries trilogy" in retrospect, I should have nabbed all four then, just for the stupid factor, but, you know, not everyone is good with math.

how about we stop there and make original titles instead of sequel-based franchises which gets the devs more and more hate with each title.
Also no me4
no fucking game should continue another which ended as badly as ME3

With a different writer, and if it's gonna be part of a planned trilogy/series, HAVE THE PLOT PLANNED IN ADVANCE.
It was clear by Mass Effect 3 that they were just pulling stuff out of their asses, which might be doable for a guy like Tolkien, who wrote the LotR trilogy with no planning beside the vague idea of the ending and a massive world he had already envisioned, but Bioware has proven that their writers, predictably, do not have Tolkien's chops in this regard.
