Life's too short to drink cheap beer.
Also, do not drink cheap booze. It'll mess you up in the morning. Get some quality stuff. Marker's Mark is a great bourbon. Patron silver is an awesome tequila but is quite pricey. Crown Royal is a good choice especially if you want to mix and since I'm a vodka fan.....try Tito's Vodka. That stuff is amzing and quite affordable. It has a slightly sweet taste with a hint of corn. It sounds strange but tastes great.

Hey everyone guess what? Today is my 21st birthday! Which means I can buy alcohol in the States!

So besides the shameless farming of birthday wishes, I come to you with a question: What do you think my first alcoholic purchase should be?
First, happy birthday.

Second, AS MUCH AS YOU FUCKING CAN!

Opportunities like this don't come around very often, so instead of going for quality (If you were, it'd be Captain Morgan dark rum for sure) go for quantity and get as fucked as you can. If you don't puke, it isn't a proper birthday...

Because America is one of the only nations on earth that ever turned off the taps and then turned them back on. The 21 drinking age is just a hold over.

Crown Royal, if you can find it. Mmm mmmm... Canadian delights!

Jack makes a decent replacement.
This guy knows what he's talking about. I like Jager, but if you're new to drinking you probably wouldn't.

Buy the thing you normally drink?
You know some of us waited until we were legally allowed to drink before doing so. The law may be a bit asinine but not everyone wants to break it for kicks.
It isn't so much about kicks. The current UK alcohol law (can't legally drink under 18) is ridiculous, because everyone starts at about 13.

Kids like getting drunk. This is a fact. I think the main reason is that we forbid it, and tell them not to drink until they hit 18. They want to do what is forbidden. We need to lower the age, and frankly (no offense, I'm sure you didn't make the law) waiting until you hit 21 to drink is flat-out retarded.

My guess would be that less than ten people have ever waited that long. It just seems like a stupid age to put a restriction on, it's so late, and by that time everyone has done it anyway. The law is just for show, the people who make the laws are well aware that most 21-year-olds have been drinking for a loooong time. The only purpose of the law is to appear as if they are doing something.

Try Rum, you can mix it or drink it straight and its pretty much the exact opposite of vodka
Ugh, rum. I tasted it once and it nearly made me throw up, but maybe that's just me.
Anyway, I'd suggest a fine wine or champagne. Something fancy like that.

To be honest, if You felt the need of asking about it bunch of random, degenrated, a bit off on sanity side people over the internet my advice would be - keep it clean and without alcohol.
Laws and symbols are one thing but if You dont even know where to start means You dont have to start at all. Seems like You feel more of a preasure to buy anything rather than just enjoying it or being addicted to it. No point.

And yes, I do drink. And no, I dont find it cool or hip or trendy or whatever is the current word.

Consistintly drink a Jack-N-Cokes all night(75% Coke, 25% Jack Daniels)
then do a Jager Bomb about every hour or so
you should be able to consistently drink for a few hours atleast

Depends on your personality:

Are you well traveled soul who brings style by the bucketful? Scotch

Are you a rough and tumble hard ass who eats steel girders and craps chains? Mead

Are you a scholar, a beautiful mind, a renaissance man without equal, a peerless intellect? Gin

Are you a love machine who is seemingly placed on Earth to bring parties to life and set beds ablaze with your passion? Spiced Rum

Are you a wuss? Smirnoff Ice or any other malt beverage (and leave my sight).

The choice is yours, Grey Warden.

Go for a good wine or champagne, as you're supposed to be celebrating.

Strange that it's 21 in the US, we can drink from 16 onwards here in Belgium. :) (The land of beer and honey)

Nothing.

Alcohol is poison for the human metabolism, so I suggest celebrating your birthday with something that doesn't make you pay for destroying your own body.

I would go for a straight Gin and Tonic.
It's nice and simple, and actually tastes pretty well. Get some good Gin though like Seagram's or something.

Though if you're going for something besides hard liquor.
Guinness.
You may have had it before, since its usually something easier to get when youre younger. But theres something about just stopping for a bit and having your first, calm, legal Guinness that makes it seem like its the first time you've ever had it

*and since people are going on about drinking ages. I'll say this.

The best only good thing about the 21 age restriction here in the states is that it helps me remember my Constitutional amendments. The previous age-limit was 18. Strangely enough, the 18th amendment is what started Prohibition in the country. Then when it was repealed, it was, coincidentally, the 21st amendment! Haha
