(For the record I bought Labbat Blue and Captian Morgan Spiced Rum)

Now since this is my longest running thread ever and I'm greedy I have a new question: What did you do for your last birthday and/or how do you plan to celebrate your next birthday?

Edit: Or if you want to keep talking about alcohol I should try for the next time I buy that's cool too. I don't really mind either way, I'm just being greedy and I want to keep this thread going.
Fine choice of drinks! I was going to suggest putting a little Cap'n in you!

Sadly, my last birthday I did nothing. Unfortunately for me, I was born in late August and I'm only 2 years removed from college, and still work in the educational system. So I rarely ever get the chance to do much for my birthday because all my friends were off on their last vacation before school starts again and/or already back in school. It sucks. This year was no different. Everyone was gone on some trip before the next school term started, so I sat at home and played video games... just like I do all the time.

Nothing.

Alcohol is poison for the human metabolism, so I suggest celebrating your birthday with something that doesn't make you pay for destroying your own body.
Glad to see at least one sensible person. My Australian Organic chemistry professor said that its like drinking poison that slowly destroys your brain cells.

Moral of the story: Drink Orange juice instead :D for a long and healthy life
of course it's poison... that's why it's hilariously fun... on the other hand, you could get hit by a bus tomorrow... there's plenty out there that can kill us, don't just dismiss it out of hand because it does a bit of damage over the long term (unless you're just stupid with it) but lets not turn this into a discussion of living in the moment/whether alcohol is worth it, etc... it's this guy's birthday and he wants to drink, just let him (apologies if pronouns are wrong)

OT: i said scotch before, but gin's good too... bombay saphire makes me feel fancy

You might not be able to afford this but it was my one (and only) B-Day present aside from the trip to NYC to celebrate it:

Johnnie Walker Blue ~ 80 Proof. 36 years old. $250/bottle

One of the best damned drinks of scotch on the planet.

(To qualify for the blue label, the scotch needs to be at least 20 years old. Mine was 36 on my birthday, that'd make it 40 years old now.)

Try Rum, you can mix it or drink it straight and its pretty much the exact opposite of vodka
I agree. Rum is your friend, and my personal fave. :) They call me The Pirate Queen of Doom for a few reasons, and my love of rum is among them. See, I didn't used to like the taste of alcohol. Then I found rum. Then I realized it wasn't "alcohol" I didn't like, it was beer. The taste of beer is not worth it to me. I wouldn't suggest beer. I would suggest Rum.

If you have an older friend that likes to mix drinks, (or I suppose younger is fine too, as long as there's some experience mixing,) then I suggest The Blue Hawaiian! [http://www.tikibartv.com/?page_id=126] (watch the episode for the recipe... also, that podcast is great fun after you've had several drinks. :) ) When I make it, it tastes like Sobe. It's VERY yum!

Crown Royal, if you can find it. Mmm mmmm... Canadian delights!

Jack makes a decent replacement.
Oh god, I have one really bad night with my old pal Crown Royal. To this day just the smell of it is enough to send me into shivers. My advice is less specific: grab a sixer of a new beer or ale every time you pickup someone else, until you find that one sweet sweet brew to sing to you.

@IQuarent: I don't really need to buy water, it's included in rent
Oh god, that cracked me up.

Go with Tequila, it's not for everyone but it's certainly fun when you start pouring it in other drinks.
Desperados is amazing, beer & Tequila.

I went for beer as my first purchase, I like Keiths but I don't know how available that is outside of Canada. On second thought if you're in the states then may want to steer clear of beer... go for rum (any rum, it really doesn't matter that much).
