You can watch whatever the hell you want, why the fuck shouldn't you? As long as you don't shove it in other people's faces, like a lot of bronies do.

If you're too 'mature' to watch immature shows, you stopped maturing when you were around 15 or 16.

I'd take the freedom to watch whatever the hell I bloody want than give a shit about Mazty's preconceived notions of "maturity"

Only a real mature person can watch kids show and not feel ashamed otherwise your not mature and fear other individuals opinions too much
also I don't like my little pony but I do like Phineas and Ferb

I watch whatever I want to, mature or not. Also what kind of mature? I find shows meant for adults more immature than some kids shows. For example I find that My Little Pony has more mature (grown up) humor than Tim and Eric.

If one has to ask what is "mature" to watch, I would not consider them mature.
Regardless, good shows more suited for "adult" or "older" oriented audiences that I recommend would be:

Dexter
Psych
The Venture Brothers

So, if you're not all for MLP:FiM than seek out the above listed entertainment.

As a guy who watches KND as a guilty pleasure, I suppose that if you are 'mature', you decide for yourself what is 'appropriate' to watch. Really, this whole issue with MLP (not that I watch it or advocate watching it) can be broken down into the following:
1) Kids spend their entire lives waiting to grow up and enjoy all the things adults get to enjoy. It's only natural for people not to understand why someone would stick with kid's stuff when they've got all the adult stuff at their disposal, and people don't like things they don't understand.
2) At no point in their lives were these 'bronies' ever the target audience. In fact, the target audience has a set of values and interests almost directly opposite to the age category the 'bronies' are in. And what's worse, they never acknowledge this or that it seems odd they like it.
3) The show has got cute talking ponies.....and nothing else worth noting. Yes, there's this apparent 'continuity' between the episodes concerning the ponies and the world they live in, but everyone just watches it for the cute ponies. And that's just childish and feminine.
4) All stories, whether they be for little girls or old men, revolve around conflict. Conflict is what makes the story interesting. What conflict there is in MLP is dry and meaningless. Ergo, they have no good stories.
5) I have seen a great number of the 'bronies' act like immature asshats. I'd say its safe to assume that most of them are immature, asshats or a combination of the two.

So, yes, at the end of the day, it is a show for girly manchildren. If you want to go out and watch it, well I guess no one can stop you from being a girly manchild.

Note that while 1) could be applied to a lot of different shows (Mighty Morhpin' Power Rangers, Loony Toons), people usually disregard it when the show has redeeming values (parental bonus/jokes that went over your head when you were a kid, classics/nostalgia, B-movie type goodness, really good art or writing, etc), which MLP does not.

Have to say I find my little pony insufferably annoying both as a meme and as a genuine show, and i'd probably get very annoyed if I was expected to be around somebody who talked about cartoons >_>.

I get the same around people who go off into anime lectures, these things seem to create some deep seated need to educate people in what they're 'blatantly missing out on'. Go watch whatever you like but don't be that guy who makes a big deal out of it :/.

It's not about masculinity or maturity except to just not be that guy who expects other people to like what he likes.

It's the same with pokemon as is it with cartoons for me, something that fit into my childhood that I no longer have any interest in, and hearing about it over and over beats whatever nostalgia from its rotting corpse was left.

So basically, when something is popular that you're not interested in and it gets shoved in your face constantly you get bored and irritable and start stereotyping the people who do it to you.

Edit: Yes I realise I and everybody else talk too much about the things we like, but that doesn't stop me!

I don't care one damn bit about what's "mature". I've been known to watch a little of everything. Just because a show is aimed at a younger audience doesn't mean they're the only ones who can enjoy it. I think a lot of network heads forget that too.

I imagine these people who limit themselves to media only aimed at their target demographic slowly slipping into dementia as their minds are wasted away by the 200th pop idol clone.

Okay, that's not fair. They do watch more engaging and intellectual programs, such as this:

Yes, this is a thread response to all the discussions about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I'm a bit confused about people who say that "of course I don't watch My Little Pony! I'm a grown man For Fuck's Sake!"
More precisely, I started to wonder what is deemed 'acceptable' to watch.
I imagine the answers will be something along the lines of CSI and Mad Men or what have you.
BY asking this your proving your insecurity and the fact that you are not mature. I watch Spongebob, does that make me immature?

I'd say it's a sign of maturity if you watch things because you like them, and not simply because you fall into the target audience.

I mean, imagine someone who, as soon as he turns 18, is all about watching "mature" things for "mature" people like him. I actually knew someone like this, and I found it pretty childish.

Basically, I'd ay it doesn't matter if a show is aimed at little girls or kids or whatever. So long as it's good, I'll watch it.

Related: Princess Tutu is the best cartoon ever.

I only watch mature shows for mature viewers such as myself. Family Guy, Grey's Anatomy, the list goes on.

Shows that "society" deem as acceptable for a mature audience are ones that encompass mature ideas or themes, shows that mature individuals deem acceptable to watch vary on the individual in question. Do you want to be true to yourself and watch something you genuinely like, or do you want to follow the trends set by society.
