Uh... Tough question. Thanks to my dad I've always been interested in music, but if I had to push I'd say my earliest musical memories are listening to Thin Lizzy's Live And Dangerous album.
That note at the start of Jaibreak, that brings back some serious memories. I used to jump around on the sofa with my brother to this stuff. Probably a good thing I didn't understand what Phil means when he says 'Any of the crowd got a little Irish in them? Any of the girls want a little more Irish in them?'

Figuring out what I liked for myself, probably more stuff from Metallica's Black Album. Getting into metal was sort of inevitable (although I remember the first time I heard Mastodon I almost crapped myself).

The first song that really got me into music was Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen when I was eight or nine.

I still consider it my favorite song of all time.

I listened to Viva La Vida by Coldplay on the T.V. once and that was the moment I fell in love with music. I branched out from there and today I am still listening to them, alongside musicians like Philip Glass to the Beastie Boys.

The very first music I listened to was the same stuff every other 5th grader was listening to at the time, i.e. the same 3 most popular songs from Slipknot/MCR. I lost interest in those and really started listening to music a lot when one of my brother's friends showed me the "The Trial" scene from Pink Floyd's The Wall, then I watched the movie a million times and started listening to that kind of stuff. Since then I guess I've been more into music that paints some kind of image/has some theatrical or cinematic qualities to it. Makes sense.
A lot of my friends ask me why I don't like metal, and I explain that I can picture tons of different scenes and situations with the music I listen to, but with metal I can only imagine boss fights.

Probably Iron Man, by Black Sabbath.
My brother showed it to me, and I really liked it. It was like nothing else I had ever heard before. From there I started seeking out other stuff by Black Sabbath, then expanding to other bands from the era, and... yeah. I ended up becoming a metalhead. :p

It would be this:
I actually listen to a lot of metal now, Sodom, Maiden, Warbringer stuff like that.
It went "White and Nerdy"--> "Smells like Nirvana"--> Nirvana--> Iron Maiden & associated music.

i have always been around music since i was born, when i was young there was many partys in the back yard with music like ac/dc, led zeppelin, black sabbath, bob dylan, lue reed, the church, the angels.. but what was really more important was when dad would play these bands and singers in the loundgeroom on the CD player.. so yeah, dad saved me from listening to 90's dance/pop crap. and i like music that matters now,not nicky minaj or pitbull shit.

I can't really think of a specific song that got me listening to music. In fact, I'm a little puzzled by the idea of this. Do you mean what made you start listening to music like on CDs or the Radio.. or got you LISTENING to the music, as in paying more attention to the lyrics and such?

I've always been listening to music my whole life, to choose a specific song that "got me listening" is kind of redundant, and I'd say this is true for a lot of people. I suppose you could say the fact I was primarily listening to older stuff like The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Weird Al, and Disco.. but really, I've been listening to all kinds of stuff for so many years.

However, what might've made me start paying closer attention could have been "Miss Independent" if only because I couldn't figure out for the life of my why my mother kept thinking they were saying "Cinnamon Buns". In all honesty, though, I was already paying closer attention before that. I'll admit a few songs I liked when I was younger I stopped listening to because I took a closer look at their lyrics and decided I didn't like what was being said. I forget what songs because, as I said, I stopped listening to them.

I reckon it was both the chili peppers
and linkin park

that first got me into music. My musical tastes have diversified and broadened since then, but these guys got me started

Edit: I realise I've picked 2 songs here but I really can't split which one (or band really) that got me started. was a while ago

Before this, I liked music, but I didn't obsess over it. This song started my musical obsession, and now I have to listen to music as much as possible.

The song that got me into metal was probably this one.
That's still probably tied with "Shogun" for my favorite Trivium track.

Also, I actually feel a little old looking at all of these music tracks people are posting...

Because mine is this:

And that song isn't that old. D:

I didn't really actively go out to listen to music until '04, when the American Idiot album came out.

Can't remember what song though that got me to become actively interested in music. It was either American Idiot, Holiday, or Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

In The End by Linkin Park was the song I believe kicked off my "whatever I think you're trying to describe here" moment. I mean, obviously I'd listened and liked plenty of music before, but that song was the one that made me go out and buy the album, and make sure I follow this band etc.

Another song that I've listened to pretty much since childhood is Keep On Movin' by 5ive.

And I just want an excuse to post it for nostalgia reasons XD It never fails to make me happy.

Music used to be passive entertainment for me. It was almost always there, and I didn't mind it's presence, but like most people, I never really gave it my full attention. Nothing I heard really moved or energized me.

That changed when my older brother bought Rock Band 2 when I was 13. Although I didn't like the game itself that much, it introduced me to a whole new genre of music I had barely heard before. Here, I discovered several songs that remain favorites to this day. But out of all of them, this one was the one to kick off my love for music:

I might have heard it on my dad's radio beforehand, but I never learned the name of the song before hearing it in Rock Band. My ears were simply captivated by Earth, Wind & Fire's rhythm and simple yet uplifting lyrics. Even now, they're almost the definition of funk to me. My music collection started with Vol. 1 of their Greatest Hits album. Three years later, my tastes have expanded to rock, electronic, j-pop, j-rock, jazz, hip-hop, and more. It's become an obsession for me now.
