I'm eventually going to get a new iPod and I want to make sure I don't forget anything.
And in the process foster a discussion about music.
Anything that would come on your local classic rock radio station counts.

Classic rock being the huge lump of musical greatness that it is there is a heap.
Short list.
  • AC/DC
    Led Zeppelin
    Black Sabbath
    Pink Floyd
    Budgie
    Deep Purple
Wolf mother (A rip off of old rock)
    The Angles
    Billy Squire
    The Doors
    Grand Funk Railroad
    Humble Pie
    Jefferson Airplane
    T-Rex
    Queen

Well that was answered quickly.

I'll just add the Rolling Stones (how did you forget them?!?)
Meatloaf,
Dire Straits,
Journey,
Van Halen,
Aerosmith,
Dio,
Velvet Revolver,
and of course Eric Clapton.

I wouldn't call them a rip off of old rock, but more of a recreation or something like that.
Good list though, I actually haven't heard of a good number of those.

How has nobody mentioned the Beatles yet? Not their earlier stuff, but still... is that just too obvious? Creedence Clearwater Revival probably belongs on here too.

Really surprised no one's mentioned Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers yet. Quintessential classic rock for me. Look on a list of classic rock stations in a radio app like TuneIn at any time of day and I guarantee you one will be playing Runnin' Down A Dream.

No-one's mentioned Chuck Berry or Jimi Hendrix yet? Escapist, you disappoint me. I don't think AC/DC counts as classic, but what the hell, they're too awesome not to include.

The ones I have that I haven't heard yet are Kansas, Rush and a couple Aussie ones like Skyhooks and the Angels. Actually, there's a lot of Australian rock from the 70s/early 80s...

Pretty much what had already been listed, except those modern pop singers mentioned for some odd reason.

Though I'll throw in extra love for Pink Floyd and Talking Heads. Excellence in a cassette.

This is a very solid list all great bands that are clear staples everyone would recognize. Maybe add the Guess who and Tragically Hip ohh and can't forget Elvis.

Post 16 and still no Clarence Clearwater Revival. Good god what is the matter with kids these days.
Can't speak for others, but I was unclear on whether they would count as classic country, or classic rock. Same reason I did not include Johnny Cash. :p

Adding to what's already been said:

The Screaming Jets
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Cold Chisel
The Angels
Live
Paul Kelly
INXS
Hoodoo Gurus
Hunters & Collectors
Fleetwood Mac
Def Leopard
Motley Crue

And the song:

Eagle Rock - Daddy Cool

Most of those are Australian artists but they're easy enough to find and all brilliant to listen to.
