All in the title really. By depressed I don't mean suicidal and clinically depressed, been there, done that, not fun. I mean depressed more in a slightly sad, bit of a down mood way. I love it when songs can have an actual influence on me, and it's much easier to see a negative effect than something positive. I love the fact that music can have that impact on me in such a way. So I'd like to find some more.

So what songs do this for you? I'll start with Hotel California by The Eagles. The overall aethsthetic of the music just seems to work really well.

Damn, I have a really good one for that.

Hmm songs that make me just normal sad...

I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab For Cutie is sad but not depressing despite the name.

Damn, the first one. Damn. That's all I can think of to say really. was good though, in it's own way. Second one didn't really impact me much though.

Wait what? A genre of music that you don't like depresses you? Is it inferior or something? You post as if it's 'bad.'

Red Hot Chili Pepper's By The Way and Stadium Arcadium albums, A Perfect Circle's first two albums, Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger and Superunknown albums and Tool's song "jimmy" all depress me quite a lot. The albums as a whole are downing in that they generally reveal to me how short and awful life is an can be, while jimmy tells a story that is gut wrenching if you really try and see what Maynard is trying to say. I tend to avoid paying attention to the lyircs to these songs when I hear them because they just make me sad and I don't want to feel that way.

I can't really think of any depressing songs that I would listen to unless I was in a clinically depressed state. I know quite a few, but I don't want to post them because I might get depressed...

+1 for Cat's in the Cradle. -2 for Ugly Kid Joe.

Now, if you would have said Harry "Gapin'" Chapin, I would have given a +10. Chapin sings that song with such heart I can't help but tear up about it.

Here's a live Chapin Cut

I listen to City & Colour when I'm down, helps to get all the bad stuff out. If I had to pick specific one, Death Of Me hands down.

Me & My *****- The Notorious B.I.G

Don't be fooled by the title, it's a rather sad song. The beat has a hypnotic and melancholic sound to it. The lyrics aren't so bad until the last verse.

Cat's in the Cradle is always a good one for getting yourself depressed (though I prefer the original Harry Chapin version as well). Other good songs for this purpose as far as I'm concerned are Mad World (Gary Jules), Pinch Me (Barenaked Ladies), This Song For You and Lonely Sky (Chris DeBurgh), The Chemical Worker's Song (Great Big Sea), Nobody Home (Pink Floyd), and Creep (Radiohead)

I'd have to say Mad World by Gary Jules and Run by Snow Patrol are the ones that generally make me feel sad at the very least.

Outloud by Dispatch. I don't know what it is about that song, but it just gets me. But it makes me kind of.... happy, too, you know? Happy and hopeful. I don't really know how to explain it.
