It really does depend on the game, but I like a little stealth, so probably rogue, or a sniper, but I do like a good mage every now and then.

pretty much anything. i prefer archery or spells tho. mainly because i havent seen a melee class with offensive spells that wasnt WoWs Shaman or Death Knight.

would be cool running around with a 2h sword shooting fireballs.

Anything in heavy armor. I may tank, heal, or dps but I sure as hell don't like folding like a paper towel under damage. In WoW had Paladin (tank) , Hunter (dps) , Shaman (healer). The only time I leveled a clothie was in Conan, where the mage classes have such a cool flavor.

Frankly, I go for anything that can hit hard and fast.

A perfect example for me would be Monks from D&D or Ragnarok Online... they can get in and out fast, they don't sacrifice ability for armor, they deal massive damage later on, and they're completely self-sufficient. Quite possibly the perfect melee class in my eyes.

I always play the fastest and most agile character, I don't care if they have difficulty killing an ant I'll still play them. I value speed and agility above all.

When I actually have a choice (Fallout, Fallout 2, Arcanum, or pen-and-paper games) I like to play the diplomatic character.

Otherwise, I guess armoured melee fighter, emphasis on the armour.

Assassins, rogues, scouts, snipers, rangers or thiefs, just any type of stealthy character but always one with high speech/charisma/whatever similair stat to talk myself out of sticky situations (when cornered or discovered and stuff). I'm also, usually, a good or neutral guy: mostly in for the money, but when faced with a choice, I go for the good option.

Lately though, especially in more free and old-school rpg's (like Arcanum, Planescape and Fallout 1/2) I've been going for 'Captain' style character; high melee and charisma to lead others into battle (and soak up the damage for me).

Either the young slightly clichéd action hero/heroin, or someone remotely like myself.

Or the freaking crazily self-destructive oppressive ruler, but that was only once. Okay. Twice...

Generally, some form of mage character, since magic has always interested me, although some times I play a basic Warrior type dude.

In terms of gunnery and modern/sci-fi games, I like being a sniper. I just have the patience for it.

I love playing the screwed-up cleric. I usually choose a deity which is not so popular (the Master of Candlestick holders and such) and go totally zealot, my own psalms included. Also I love to pick up on the pagan non-believers : ever tried to cast "hold person" on a character which is using the bathroom?

Good times, good times.

Oh, I also once was a black orc in a Warhammer-like world. The main problem was I couldn't speak common. It led to a few hilarious situations, like dropping a bed from a tavern window on my mate.

Oh man, I gotta play again!

Something excruciatingly camp.

On D&D I played a bard with an acoustic flying V and long, blond hair named "Timo". He died. So then I rolled a paladin with a cleft chin and long blond hair named "Lord Rather Dashing".

Either I'm a bad ass warior/gladiator/William of Wallace or I'm some cross between Altiar and that guy from thief. (But I always try to be a good charcter. I guess I'm just nice like that)

It really depends on how long I've played the game. If I'm new at it, I go tank all out. Once I get used to it, I'll pick whatever class lets me kill things from far away, preferably with one shot. It usually ends up being a mage with decent combat abilities.

If the mage class isn't to my liking, I play a healer. Just 'cause sometimes I like helping out.
