My first thought was "is this real?"

My second was along the lines of "This is pretty cool."

That's exactly what I was thinking. If studies like this were continues we might someday have people living in robot bodies when they get their head severed in, say, a car accident. This kind of research could really help with understanding amputation and artificial limbs, too.

I sort of felt sorry for the dog, but I'd rather a dog than another human.

Hmm, I also doubt the validity of this, as you don't see the machine behind the head and it's all too easy to imagine someone's hand is stuffed into a very well-made puppet head. Although the movement of the tongue is very good and that then makes you wonder.....

very interesting but still, with the poor quality of the footage and the lack of being shown how the head is actually hooked up to the machinery I cannot help but doubt it.

Certainly the head couldn't be maintained long-term on the machine.
