So i was commenting on a post when what I assumed is an ad took me to a fake virus check page and said I had 9999 trojans, having seen this before I left the page instanly, then I did a scan with my actual virus protection service(avast) and it came up clear so it must of been an ad.
why does the escapist let these ads run on their site?

(Its probably because they are using google ads but that also begs the question why don't they check(google I mean))

My advise to you is don't click stuff and have your security turned up, or have the option to block popups so you don't click ads by mistake.

Hmmm...you'd think other people would have gotten that a well, if it was an ad, otherwise there's a marketing failure going on somewhere.

Unless the ad itself was ok, but the site of the company running it had been tampered with.

EDIT: Oh, and yeah, mods don't like people talking about adblockers.

(Actually, they don't like people supporting piracy, as it's illegal and the rules forbid support of illegal things, but they are ok with people supporting Anonymous' attacks on things, which are also illegal? Odd)

That was fast. Crap! Well, I won't get that 'so many posts without wrath' badge now. Maybe I should erase my other posts today too (other subjects but very biased).

Didn't even take 3 minutes. *sigh* Well since the mods are on to me, I've been trying to contact one for awhile. Could one contact me mano e mano?

Nah, you can still get that badge with warnings, but once it goes to probations/bans, then those badges are forfeit.
Unless the tech team changed it, which I don't think is the case.

Friendly reminder to everyone else who may post in this thread: Please don't admit to the use of adblocking software, or encourage other users to obtain it.

Since when was ad blocking software illegal? I know companies make money from advertising but surely a user has the choice as to whether they wish to see ads or not.

Yeah I wasn't even encouraging it, just saying I personally use it, and I got a warning within... let me check profile in another tab and this thread for when I posted.

2 minutes.

Okay, so, yeah. Sorry, I'm not very articulate right now because of how disenheartened and hurt I feel right now. Sure my own blatant stupidity (I have CRS syndrome.. can't remember s) and I thought that the thing about saying certain things was that THEY can't say it and not to tell people how to get it or something, not something as easy as admitting it. Man I wish my RP was on another site, but other sites get less traffic and its never gotten this good before so its not like I'm leaving. Sure want to though. Later.

As far as I am aware, it isn't illegal. However, if you would care to read the Code of Conduct [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/codeofconduct], specifically under "Have Respect for the Site and its Content", it is part of the rules that everyone has to agree to before posting. Admitting to the use of is generally counted as spreading the knowledge of it, and as such, I'd say encouraging it.

Later.
Just avoid admitting to the use of adblocking software, and I'd hope avoiding actually using the software (But we can't really do anything unless the user admits to using it, or encourages others), and you should be fine. Take a quick read through the rules I linked, and by showing other users respect, you should easily be able to avoid getting trouble on this site ever again.

That just happened to me as well...I don't know why it has to be an ad, though.
