Doesn't it just depress you when one of your favorite or preferred bands who made some GREAT music in their older days, then all of a sudden fucking throw their roots out the window and produce some soulless mainstream sound and suddenly they are not what they used to be? Here are just some bands that I mourn for for doing this:

In Flames, before:

after:

The fuck!?

ADDED: Soilwork, before:

P.S. I knew that some people would be trying to call me out for this, and well I just want to say that your comments are not welcome, because I am not saying that bands don't have a right to change their sound or to go mainstream. This is merely about bands that had an iconic sound like the pioneering MDM bands shown above and then throwing that out and nowadays it's like they never wrote those songs. This is more about them forgetting their roots rather than bashing their musical direction.

To me the band that's become bad is Dream Theater. I loved Images And Words & Metropolis Pt.2: SFOAM.

They have made bad albums (in my opinion) before, too, but I've especially hate the two latest albums, their music is now less progressive (the time signatures feel very roughly stamped on the music, chord progression is mostly pretty simple), more metal-ly and very boring.

Edit: and the drummer's skills have decreased much. He never was that tight, but he was still pretty good in I&M. I'm pretty sure he doesn't practice very much these days.

I prefer the second song, actually.
I second this motion however I know exactly what the OP means. This kind of happened with Metallica with Reload especially. Also I was a little disappointed with Blink-182's "mature album" however its still a pretty good one.

Won't say I prefer The Mirror's Truth, but I won't say I dislike it. December Flower is far better, but still, don't think the new album is that bad.

They got Linkin Park Syndrome. Lost Prophets fell for the same illness.

Korn and System of a Down suffers from that same syndrome as well.

Green Day.
Dookie was such a great album, and then what? Then they try to act all political with American Idiot, and release the most blatant musical political marketing tripe I've ever seen. You're not a political band, Green day. You're not even punk. You were a 'fun' band who tried to go serious, and you suck now.

I disagree, System of a Down had consistent discourgraphy.
I just think they got more soft on the later albums. The selftitled was very different and had friggin' awesome growls from Serj. And then they got famous with Toxicity.

More or less make a tad bit more complicated music, and maybe something that has grown on them over the years.

I really hate characters like you. Just telling you. Don't f**king judge any band. Ever. And I can't speak on behalf of everybody else, but I hate threads like these. It's like the authors want a f**king medal for being anti-mainstream.
This, and wtf is mainstream, its a made up concept that varies from person to person. It means dick.

>.> so you prefer the generic one?
Yeah. First one sounds cluttered.
Your simply not used to the more complex and slightly worse production of the older In flames then.
Well, I listen to old Meshuggah a lot which is complex but doesn't sound cluttered like that.

And I shouldn't have to 'get used' to a song.

Let's just agree to disagree, yeah?
