What the Tropical Cyclone (Yasi) would look like in other areas

The Brisbane Times, a newspaper here in Australia, has mocked up some images of the Tropical Cyclone that is currently assaulting the north east coast over other areas to give and idea of what it would be like if it hit somewhere more densely populated than rural Queensland.

There's a link here and obviously it's just a superimposed image over a map of the same scale.

I know it's back to front for the northern hemisphere locations but it's still interesting.

Also, it's not the biggest cyclone ever but it has the fastest recorded winds ever. Like, for the whole world.

Just thought I'd share this.

Incidentally, is anyone online going to be hit. I know alot of places have had the power cut, due to flooding and falling powerlines not mixing well.

But any Escapee's waiting for Yasi?

Too far away... (WA)

However, my fiance is getting double shifts because the Telstra call centres in Queensland are all closed, and his centre has to take up the slack.

Hope you're all going to be fine over there... sounds like you've had a shit run of luck!

I like how Yasi is hitting near where Yahtzee lives.

Seriously, Queensland has had some REALLY bad luck lately.

Where does Yahtzee live? I thought he lived in Melbourne!

Pretty sure it's Brissy. If not, then somewhere near.

Actually, now that I think about it, he opened the Mana Bar in Fortitude Valley, which is basically central Brisbane.

We're about to get hammered with ice, sleet, freezing rain and a helluva lotta snow here in upstate New York. I wish you guys the best of luck out there, man. Hopefully, it isn't going to be too disasterous and the loss of life will be avoided. Here's to weathering Mother Nature's fury, mate. (raises cup of black tea)

Cairns here, haven't had too much rain yet (no more than the average shower), but in the last half hour the wind's suddenly really started picking up, the gusts are getting more frequent and the regular wind's a lot stronger too.

Yahtzee lives in Fortitude Valley :) It is right next door to the city and is nowhere near close to Yasi

Actually.. Its not.

Man, this is crazy. Thankfully I'm near Brisbane, so not in any danger.

Good luck North Queensland =D

Same state, close enough. A bit of a stretch, but anything to make a lame joke work, right?

But yeah, this will be interesting. I feel for the Premier of Queensland. Must be really stressful.

I was up at 4 this morning door knocking to ask people to evacuate, a lot didn't want to go, even after I told them of the 6m storm surge and the 1000mm of rain coming their way. We have tomorrow off, but friday we begin cleanup

Well, I'm not going to get hit by the cyclone. I live in Canada. However, if it's any consolation to you guys, my city is facing the biggest snowstorm it has seen since 1965; the wing is blowing the snow and ice so hard it feels as if its ripping into your skin.
